Coupler stock
Todd Fisher
Has anyone heard from Frank regarding the couplers that are still showing out of stock? Maybe a time frame when they may be back?

Todd: I just placed an order via website a little more than two weeks ago ... received my order about a week ago. Frank did respond quickly to my direct e-mail ... may want to give e-mail directly. V/r, Tom C.

Well unfortunately I have tried sending multiple emails in the last few months with no success, someone mentioned he heard Frank was getting all his emails sent to spam so he wasn't getting them, so I figured I'd ask on here. None of the type Fs or long shank lower shelfs are showing in stock and it's been months since they announced the new printer

Yes, it would be nice to know when all those couplers might be back in stock. I've got an assortment of projects waiting, and I'm wondering whether to pack them up and clear the bench.
And an answer to my question of July 23rd about the dummy couplers would be nice, also. Ed Edward Sutorik

Here I am!
The new printer appears to be a bust and I’m pretty much out of stock on
all of the investment cast stuff. I haven’t given up completely, but I’m not
sure what else to try. I wish I had better news to tell. After months of messing
with the thing and waiting for custom parts that don’t fix the issues, the
accuracy and reliability is still not there. Its all pretty disheartening
actually. I’m kicking around ideas about building my own printer but that seems
like more than I can take on at this point.
The die cast stuff (EC87, EN87, SBEC87, and Sharons are still available and
will be for the foreseeable future.
Not sure what the question was about dummy couplers, but those are no
longer available either. Those were a neat product made by Frank Glatzl that
nicely complemented my line. He decided to discontinue the product. I bought
everything he had left and now I’m sold old. I’m not sure what else to say
there.
Sorry guys.
Frank

Ed, Regarding the dummy couplers... If I remember correctly, I believe that Frank did mention that the dummy couplers would be discontinued once the supply was exhausted. I believe he even provided the reason behind this decision. Suggest searching the archives of the chat site for his transmission. Cheers, Bill Keene Irvine, CA

Frank, thanks for the response while I'm sure that's not the responseany of us were hoping for, I know I can say for me at least we have an idea of what's going on. As popular as your couplers have become I can say I certainly hope you all can come up with a solution for the printer problems. I hope to soon see the type Fs and the long shank lowers come back up as well. Thanks again Frank.

Frank, This sounds really bad, almost "unfix-able."(?) I was just headed back to HO from O looking forward to outfitting everything to lower/upper shelf couplers, but this sounds like I may never get them except if I can stand Kadee or McHenry which aren't options for me. Am I reading too much into this present setback? Investment cast couplers have had many difficult periods over the years as I recall-is this one in a major way more serious? Alan Hummel

Regarding the dummy couplers:
I recall Frank saying the dummies were discontinued and that he had enough to last for awhile. I tried to order some "after awhile" and couldn't find them on the website. I thought they were perhaps sold out. But I also thought they perhaps were not, and it just didn't show on the website. That is why I asked the question. On July 23rd. As far as the many other sold out couplers: I am at a point where I need various shank lengths of Sergent couplers to continue my conversions. Without them, I can't proceed. Which then means my conversion to Sergent couplers can't proceed. Because I need a "critical mass" of Sergent equipped cars to make the conversion workable. Ed Edward Sutorik

Frank, Oh crap, that really sucks. I'm still in need of more Type H and Type F couplers, and I need a bottom cover for a short Type F. 3D printers are supposed to be better now. What were you using before? Chris Z.

Hi,
What about the S-scale die cast coupler, EC64K? Regards,

Edward, It's a "pain" but I have Kadee&McHenry scale couplers on most of my newer rolling stock and my Sergents will couple to both. Hands are sometimes needed to finish the couple but they DO work. When coupling push the Kadee or McHenry&the Sergent to the 1 side so the Sergent can grip the foreign coupler's knuckle. When uncoupling uncouple the Sergent's knuckle 1st. Hope this helps. Hi
All, Trying
to answer a bunch of questions at once... Alan:
Really bad/unfixable. I wouldn’t say that. I can’t stand to not work on a
problem. Time frame for solution is totally unknown though. Chris:
Post to Facebook group. Sure. No secrets here. Ed:
Critical mass. Yes. Various shank lengths are very important. Wish I still had
them. Dummy couplers sold out very quickly once I announced they were going
away. Chris:
3D Printers supposed to be better now. The old printer was a high dollar
EnvisionTec. Done with those guys. Too hard to deal with. Wayne:
EC64 knuckles are diecast but the bodies are investment cast. Knuckles are no
good without the bodies. I still have several 1000 knuckles and a $12k die cast
mold for the knuckles that I can’t use. Nathan:
Rolling your own with knuckles and balls sourced from me. Sounds great. Good
luck. Let me know how I can help. Frank

Nice to hear from you again Frank, any news on the short shank type E's yet or is that one of the items that the printer is causing problems with.

Yeah Rob, the short Es are out of stock and effected. And I *just* figured out how great the short shanks work with Moloco draft gear boxes :-( I look forward to more Frank. Wish there was some way I could help, but I don't know a lot about 3d printers... Maybe the impossible to deal with guys are difficult for a reason? Anyway - I hope you sort them out soon. I'll be ordering more when they are back in stock Rob Barker Sydney AU

What concerns me most is that the couplers may disappear from the market if Frank can't get the problems with the printer sorted out, I have over 400 freight cars so converted to Sergents but have some real concerns at the moment, it would be a real pain in the you know what to have to go back to using Kadee's after the rather large investment I have made in regards to the Sergents but at this point in time it does not look to promising, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Frank can come up with.
Regards to all. Rob McLear. Aussie.

Frank put the plans for the couplers in public domain months ago to insure that doesn’t happen.
