John:

IMO..we should be pro-active on this and switch/sign up at the groups.io
site....soon.
I have done this with a few other Yahoo groups I belong to and it is easy
and seamless.

John,

Thanks for being proactive about forming the new group in groups.io. I've long believed Yahoo is a lost cause, and we're using this technology on borrowed time. IMHO, the sooner we leave Yahoo behind, the better.

Subject: [SergentEng] New Sergent Engineering @ groups.io

Hello All

While following (with interest) discussions on other groups, about the problems and possible shutdown of Yahoo. I have started a new group on groups.io https://groups.io/g/SergentEngineering .. For now, I will not do anything with this group. I’m merely trying to be proactive in case Yahoo does go away. If and when the time comes, I can have all the members, discussions, photo’s and files transferred to the new group.

Is there any interest in doing this now?

Whenever you want/need to make the move, fine with me. The Proto 48 group
moved to IO last year with no hiccups. The S scale Yahoo group is looking
at options away from Yahoo now.

Though I don't post here often, I'd vote for the move to occur now rather than later. Groups.io is an ad-free site; it seems to work much better than Yahoo groups and offers more features to its users.

Also, by doing it now you can transfer all the members at once and avoid any potential complications from those that might take it upon themselves to individually subscribe to the groups.io list.

Just my $0.02...

I strongly support a move to groups.io NOW. I think the threat to healthy continuance of Yahoo groups is real and I much prefer the options and reading formats available at groups.io.
Be well,

John,

FWIW, it would probably be better to just transfer the group.  The transfer establishes everyone’s Groups.io account as well as membership in the group, and copies their subscription settings (Individual, NoEmail, etc.) as well. Their account will initially have no password, unless they are already a Groups.io member.  Each individual will begin receiving messages and can post or reply by email immediately upon transfer regardless of membership.

If they wish to visit the group’s website for photos, files, etc., they will need to create a password to be full members.  That is a very easy process the first time they try to logon.

And, unlike Yahoo and the other big services, they won’t have to give up an appendage and their first born.

Memberships are transferred first, followed by files, photos, and so on.  When finished Groups.io will send a message to each individual letting them know they are member of the new group along with appropriate links.  Once that is done, I would suggest switching everyone’s membership on this group to Moderate and perhaps post a message saying we’ve moved and pointing them to the new group home.  Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Normally a transfer would be best, but the transfers have been temporarily suspended due to issues with Yahoo ... it's apparently been acting squirrely.  So it's better to get people signed up now, just in case Yahoo craters before it cna be transferred.

New Kadee/Sergent compatible coupler boxes now in production

Jim King <jimking3@...>

Two weeks ago, I announced a new coupler box/lid combo suitable for Kadee “whisker” and Sergent “compatible shank” couplers (with optional self-centering feature).  Those parts are now in production and ready for your fleet.

Go here to read info on these boxes and the recently-released “Accurail narrow box” replacements:

Contact me off list to ask questions, place order, etc.  Orders placed just after the first announcement was made are being filled now and will go in the mail by Wednesday.

Good to know!  But this group isn't about metaphysical philosophy, it's about physical couplers ... 8^)

Hi All;

Re: First post

Sorry about That, I'm new to posting. I'm a long time modeller and a 25 year Model Railroader. Interested in Sergent couplers due to their prototypical look and operation. I've enjoyed the Group for at least 3 years. Thanks.

My intro

Mark Stamm

As requested, let me introduce myself... I’ve been a modeler since I was old enough to have a hobby knife. There where many starts and stops that got in the way, but today I enjoy myself as I can. I have for the most part been an observer of the this group, but I have acquired multiple pairs of the Sergent couplers to test. Once the final plan for the railroad comes together the final decision will be made, as of today I have lots of cars with no coupler applied.

I look forward to reading the discussions as they unfold.

Couplers

Good morning, I switched to Sergent couplers years ago and love them. The realistic size and the operation are awesome. Thanks for having this group. Paul B.

HOn3 Couplers

Mark Lewis

First, thanks for moving this group to this new format. Glad to be proactive.
Yesterday I finished building 3 pair of RNC87K narrow shank HOn3 couplers...my first Sergents.
These are to be installed on Rail Line box/stock cars.
Instead of using Frank's recommended Rustoleum primer, I used Tamiya #TS-1, Red Brown, in a spray can. I liked the more subdued color
...more realistic.
Looking forward to converting all my Blackstone rolling stock to Sergents.

Here I am

This is my introductory post as requested.
I've not yet taken the plunge to convert to Sergent, but I'm still very impressed with the prototype accuracy.
So, I'd like to keep informed.

Good Morning

Paul Paoli

Hello, my name is Paul and I’m planning on building a switching layout (17 x 17’) based on the Southern Pacific. I’m really looking forward to switching all of my Rolling Stock to Sergent Engineering couplers.
