Yes! When I first started playing with Sergents I checked slack, about 6 kadee equipped cars would have almost 3/4 in of slack! Same amount of Sergents had had about 1/32in of slack. Nice. Dale

I think I remember a somewhat similar HO scale coupler from way back when that utilized a center pin lifted from below to open the knuckle when the pin was pushed upward. If I remember

I agree on the lack of slack, it really bothers me with Kadees that "accordion" down the track. It can be disconcerting to see great models running through beautiful scenery, but just bouncing along.

It just so happens that I know the guy in this video - Tim Hartsfield, and have seen his operational cutbar in person. He made the locking pin using a wire lift ring. Just that simple.

I would hope it is clearer after all the discussion. "Operations" means different things to different people. To some it is simply that the train is running, the locomotive is "operating"

Sergent couplers and operations
I have been watching this thread and can't refrain from commenting.
I think Sergent couplers work fine on a a layout out designed for them. The height needs to be lower than what you traditionally
