Frank, This sounds really bad, almost "unfix-able."(?) I was just headed back to HO from O looking forward to outfitting everything to lower/upper shelf couplers, but this sounds like I may never get them except if I can stand Kadee or McHenry which aren't options for me. Am I reading too much into this present setback? Investment cast couplers have had many difficult periods over the years as I recall-is this one in a major way more serious? Alan Hummel

with the thing and waiting for custom parts that don’t fix the issues, the

The die cast stuff (EC87, EN87, SBEC87, and Sharons are still available and
will be for the foreseeable future.
Not sure what the question was about dummy couplers, but those are no
longer available either. Those were a neat product made by Frank Glatzl that
nicely complemented my line. He decided to discontinue the product. I bought
everything he had left and now I’m sold old. I’m not sure what else to say
there.
Sorry guys.

None of the type Fs or long shank lower shelfs are showing in stock and it's
been months since they announced the new printer

Frank, thanks for the response while I'm sure that's not the responseany of us were hoping for, I know I can say for me at least we have an idea of what's going on. As popular as your couplers have become I can say I certainly hope you all can come up with a solution for the printer problems. I hope to soon see the type Fs and the long shank lowers come back up as well. Thanks again Frank.

Ed, Regarding the dummy couplers... If I remember correctly, I believe that Frank did mention that the dummy couplers would be discontinued once the supply was exhausted. I believe he even provided the reason behind this decision. Suggest searching the archives of the chat site for his transmission. Cheers, Bill Keene Irvine, CA

Yes, it would be nice to know when all those couplers might be back in stock. I've got an assortment of projects waiting, and I'm wondering whether to pack them up and clear the bench.
And an answer to my question of July 23rd about the dummy couplers would be nice, also. Ed Edward Sutorik

Sergent couplers are so much more realistic and operate better so I don't bother with Kadee couplers. I remover them from RTR and use Sergent on building projects. I model the Charleston & Western Carolina in HO from Augusta, Ga to Greenwood, SC with some ACL locomotives I plans to decal for the C&WC and a 4-6-2 Broadway Limited undecorated I will decal too. Many of my cars are Sunshine or Yarmouth which will be decaled C&WC. Riley Kinney

Re: Making the plunge!
redleg142@...
Hello, All.
My name is Cecil Collum and I have been a member about three weeks and have purchased and assembled the six EC87 couplers in the starter kit. I alssembled one coupler without the fixture then bought one and assembly of the other five took only about 30 minutes. To prevent losing the tiny balls and springs, I used a jewlers tip and put the bottom of my shop apron on the benchtop, placed the parts on that and had no ptoblems with fly away parts. My apron is medium blue so the parts contrasted well. I am building an HO pike after thirty years of N scale modeling, so my railroad is not operational just yet.

Re: Coupler Knuckles
Sergent does sell just the knuckles. I bought around 20 or so several years go. A friend of mine has made etches of three styles of knuckle holders based on Norfolk Southern prototypes. Frank's knuckles look great in them! right now I don't have any pictures of these.

Re: Coupler Knuckles
The Athearn knuckles don't look that out of scale. But the real knuckles weigh 75 lb so you don't want to have to carry them too far! Andy Jackson Santa Fe Springs CA

I had a look at the athearn ones and you are right they are too small. I have some spare to scale knuckles with brackets that I can send you. See pics.

Athearn sells the knuckles with the bracket for the back of the pilot. But you have to order over the phone.

Coupler Knuckles

Hi all, I've been working on some Wisconsin Central GP38-2s lately, and a thought popped up. these engines have spare knuckle holders installed, and I was thinking of using Sergent knuckles as details. Was wondering if Frank ever thought about selling just knuckles in packages of about a dozen or so as details. I'd hate to cannibalize knuckles from working couplers as details.
Thanks, Randy

Hi Frank, I'll reply this way since I can't get an email through. Maybe Gmail is being blocked and I should try from this account. Anyway, I'll take the 7 packs of FC87M040K is you still have them. There are some other things I need also so I'll put an order together soon. Chris Z.

Here I am! I couldn’t find any emails from you lately. Maybe my IT
department lost them.
Anyway, I have 7 packs of the FC87M040K in stock. Making more may take a
month or so while I work the kinks out of a new printer.
Thanks,
Frank

I sent an email a week ago to him from my Gmail account asking about stock availability on the FC87M040K couplers. I did so because I want to order enough for all my UFIX Bathtubs and Coalveyors. I used both addresses I have but I haven't heard back. Chris
