Glad to be here. Was on the Yahoo group but never posted. Been playing with Sergent couplers for a year or so now. Have 8 locomotives with them installed as well as about 50 freight cars. In short just about my whole fleet. Building a switch layout set in the modern time period in HO scale. Really like how the couplers work and look.

Are you using the HO Sergent couplers for Sn3? I'm been using narrow shank version as the standard for my Sn2 equipment. I have installed Sergent couplers on a few Sn3 cars as I built them, but most of my Sn3 rolling stock still has Kadee couplers. Dave Heine Easton, PA

Re: HOn3 Couplers
Charles Smith
Thank you for moving me over to the new Sergent Engineering group. So, I am not a robot but a guy who has been in a variety of scales but mostly interested in narrow gauge. Since space has always been scarce, I settled on Hon3 years ago. When I was starting my career, I tried ON3 with Clouser couplers that worked like both the prototype and the Sergent. Space and expenses became obvious to my college teacher’s budget but I never forgot those smooth-working couplers Bill Clouser made in lost-wax brass casting process. Their big problem was short circuits since cars, couplers, and trucks all conducted electricity well!
Thanks Mark for the picture of your painted coupler; I have been afraid to paint, especially from a can but will try it now that I have seen that it can be done. My first two bulk orders of couplers came chemically colored but my last 100 came natural metal which does not look as good to my eyes.

No problem, I had to search too! When I couldn't find it in old messages, I tried YouTube. There are others but this one isn't bad. Mike Conder

Thanks for the link. Will check it out. Perhaps I should have searched YouTube before posting the question. Unfortunately, this old dog is not so computer literate. Cheers, Bill Keene Irvine, CA

COUPLER ASSEMBLY VIDEOS
Bill Keene
Hello Group,
Some time back there was a thread on the group that provided link(s) to videos showing how to assemble the Sergent couplers. I have searched -- I am not all that good at this function -- the messages and files for these links without success. Now that my stock of assembled couplers is down to zero, it is time to learn how to assemble these little wonders. Can someone on the list provide the link(s) to these videos? There are 70 freight cars awaiting to join knuckles. Thanks & Cheers, Bill Keene Irvine, CA

That looks like a good color, will be interested in how it holds up in operation. Mike Conder

Hi all. I have been using Sergent Couplers for I'll guess ten years. I've infected alot of people with these couplers and now they are the only coupler they use. Many, only on engines and cabooses but that will spread. My brother has bought them by the bulk paks and has equipped everything. To the people that think they arn't good for long trains. My brother runs 120 car trains Sergent Equipped no problems. Please don't ever stop making them I will be lost. Steven E. Cerka Elmhurst, IL

John: Here is a photo of the painted couplers and the paint I used. I did not have to "buff" the exterior of the couplers ad you should do with Rustoleum, since the Tamiya paint is flat and has very fine pigments, so there is no rough surface. Sorry for the poor cell phone photos. Mark Lewis Stony Point, NC

Mark, I'd like to see some photos of your results using the selected paint... and would like to know how you applied it. Thanks. John D.

First post too; I have some rolling stock converted to Sergents – and a lot of other rolling stock I’m vacillating about. Pre-assembled made the conversion a lot easier for me.
