Custom Coupler Assembly

Alan Hummel

Does anyone still assemble & paint Sergent Couplers for customers since Frank stopped offering assembled couplers? Nathan Rich used to do this, but can't seem to reach him anymore.

If anyone can help me,it would sure be much appreciated.

Thanks to all.

H type couplers-useful information

Andrew

I recently equipped some Rapido Osgood-Bradley "American Flyer" coaches with H type couplers. The H type couplers look really nice and operate as they should (forced me to dial in coupler height perfectly). This car/coupler combination does not work on 30" radius or smaller. I think they would likely need a minimum #6 or possibly #8 turnout for crossovers and definitely work better 34"+ radius.

Thank you, Michael!

Yahoo finally "delivered" your message back to me about the screws for the EN87A couplers.  I see it took Yahoo about a day and a half to do it, too.   And I also noticed it took nearly 24 hours for Yahoo to post my original enquiry message about the screws!

I will be seeing about buying them from Accurail.

Hi,

Micro Fasteners , http://www.microfasteners.com, are an excellent  source of the right screw.  I would recommend the #0 x 1/4 or #0 x5/16 as a good choice you want the sheet meta with the Philips head.  They have a button head screw in #0 but it's too short. Rats!!!

Was it by any chance my post about passenger car couplers?

I don't think the owner of this group is sitting there approving and denying messages of people who have proven themselves not to be spammers; if he is then he needs a new hobby, like some of the owners and moderators of another group I'm on.

I'm not sure exactly what's happening for you but I find most of the the problems that make people think they are being blocked etc is actually Yahoo itself, I found that a lot of my posts when I replied by email were taking days to get through Yahoo's server, sometime never making it through. If I posted directly from the groups page the messages went straight through.

All of these issues that Yahoo gives us is why many groups have left and gone to either social media (ugh!) or started their own forums on their own websites.

Michael, a couple of us had an article in the 2014 HOn3 Annual showing how a number of cars were fitted with Sergent couplers.  IIRC John Niemeyer installed them in a WSLCo log car, don't remember if it was a Durango Press, Keystone or other manufacturer.  Regardless, that article may help with your cars.

John:
I am the type of person that if I make a mistake I say so, and Apology for my mistake, to me it the only right thing to do, I guess you can say I was raised that way many years ago, I think, or at least at times I do try to forgot some of my past. I am waiting for that day when I can I really can't remember, but in my case I will forget the good stuff and, remember the bad stuff..
Now I have about 40 couplers that I need to put together and see how I am going to install some in the old Keystone Log cars, not sure if I want to cut away the whole bottom of where the coupler will go, or try to trim the opening that they have for a Kadee coupler. I think I will be okay on a MDC Roundhouse Shay, if not then I will need to do the same to it, or maybe rebuild it to hold a Sergent. I have about 40 Blackstone cars to do and two Micro-trains Reefer and about ten Micro-Trains log cars. I am working on four HOn3 MDC Shays, building them and also, repowering them and replacing the gears on the axles, that just slip when you move them. Now the great part of being able to to that, is that NWSL has a video under Seven Street Shop and  it show how to install the new gears and to get it to run quiet and smooth, it also show repowering other engines on the same Facebook page, so check it out if you get the chance, and see how the expert do it. Right now it show about four engine it has repowered with more to come.

Hey Mike.

We all run into this stuff from time to time. It certainly isn’t anything you or the moderators did.

And it is pretty normal to comment on things that appear wrong. I feel your initial apology was more than sufficient; I am not all that convinced that any apology was required albeit your note of explanation is much appreciated.

Okay I think I have found the problem, I replied from the e-mail and not from the site, which I also send a apology from, and it didn't come through, so once again I am sorry.

I been on here at times way to long I think, and it sound like we started about the same time. I now remember having e-mail taking more than a week to be posted, and it seem my mind has left the building. They say the mind is a terrible thing to waste, but it was so much fun back in the 70"s. I wish that this really happen, but it didn't, and at age 65 I can now blame it on old age, or being a old fart take your pick. I think I am going to go hide under my blanket and start a war with the outside, and see if I can win this time.

Micheal,

You wouldn't be alone in the world in thinking that you were being blocked / moderated / censored with groups that you were a part of because of Yahoo's lameness. I don't know how long you've been on Yahoo Groups for but I've been on this thing for at least the last 15 years and I think a great proportion of Yahoo Groups users would never know how bad it's gotten.

It used to be an email reply was very quick, certainly much quicker than logging in to post via the web interface; now, well the last email reply I sent to a group I'm on took 4 days to appear. The post I made here before was done via the web interface and that took about 20 minutes to appear. Hardly the lightning service it once was.

I'm willing to bet in a few days your original posts will appear here. If not, Yahoo lost them - it happens!

Here a copy of the second e-mail that I had send, that also didn't come through, so that tell me I can't hit reply to a e-mail from this group, I will have to do it from the site itself.

Michael, I am one of the moderators on this list and you have full posting right.  You are not moderated or censored in any way.

If you are having problems posting (and this recent post of yours did come through fine) i would look into the potential issues that Tim mentioned.
