Join for Free Groups.IO, the Replacement for Yahoo Groups

Over the years so many of you have signed up with my various Yahoo groups and this has served as a great mailing list I've used occasionally to share spiritual quotes, blog entries or satsang radio podcast announcements. Recently, Yahoo announced that even the email listserv version of Yahoo Groups will soon be discontinued... as of December 15th. BUT, I've already created some groups at a wonderful free site that represents a great improvement over Yahoo. You're invited to join Groups.IO, the 2020 version of eGroups. -- James Bean

Joining is very simple. Just go to: https://groups.io/register   type your email address and create a password, and POOF! You're in. You'll have an account there.

Then join the Sant Mat group: https://santmatfellowship.groups.io/g/main   (or type "Sant Mat" in the search box there and you'll see a few groups I've created there), join and you'll continue to receive a message once a month or occasionally.

Remembering the Forgotten Self (Soul) Lost in the Dust of Creation

Rumi: "You think of yourself as a citizen of the universe. You think you belong to this world of dust and matter. Out of this dust you have created a personal image, and have forgotten about the essence of your true origin."

Stevan L. Davies: "I think that Gnosticism is about discovering the way that God has turned into you, and then realizing that if you can describe how it is that God turned into you, you can reverse the process."

Over the many centuries there have always been mystical branches of Judaism, Kabbalah, Sethian Gnosis, and others that have had an ethical, peaceful philosophy of life, adhered to a vegetarian diet, had living teachers or Masters of the Name, a system of initiation into holy names, and the #meditation practice of ascension of the soul through several upper worlds of Light and Sound, with the goal of reuniting with the Supreme Being. Sometimes these teachings get lost or partially forgotten over time, but there is evidence for their existence, and the quest of the mystic soul is to REMEMBER. (from one of my blog entries)

Like Galileo discovering new worlds through the lens of his telescope, mystics have been trying to tell humanity for eons of something quite similar. The reason why the contemplative state of being is still hidden from most of us is that, unlike Galileo’s telescope, in order to look through this particular lens, the third eye or inner vision, we mustn’t focus on the outward sensory impressions, but go in the opposite direction: into Inner Space. Look through the lens of the third eye during meditation to access the world of within. Tune the inner radio dial, listening for the subtle inner sounds coming from beyond the silence. This is how to access the Kingdom of the Heavens, the Inner Space within you. (from one of my blog entries)

"Look within yourself with the inner eye.

The whole expanse inside is replete

with the refulgence of the Divine Light."

-- Dadu Dayal, the Compassionate Mystic

“Sant Kabir Sahab asks: ‘You have lost an object in one place and you are looking for it in an entirely different place. How could you possibly find it?’ Let us consider this dilemma in view of the way people usually attempt to find peace, joy and contentment. People wander ceaselessly through life, always seeking to acquire material resources, thinking they will thus achieve their goal of happiness. However, as the saints tell us, even if we acquire all these physical possessions – status, fame, or wealth – we are still unable to attain true peace, joy and happiness. The peace we seek is not found in the outer material world but only in the inner world of the soul. The outer manifest world is merely sensory. It is transitory and ever-fleeting. But within us lives the Supreme Being whose true form is peace and bliss. The Divine is unmanifest (without physical form), eternal, and beyond the senses. Only by turning inward and ceasing the outward wandering, will we be able to attain lasting joy and eternal peace.”

– Swami Santsevi Ji Maharaj – Finding Peace Within – Light and Sound on the Path

“Bring the sky beneath your feet and listen to Celestial Music everywhere.” -- Rumi

God is Already Within Us #radhasoami #santmat #sant_mat

God is Already Within Us

“Take up the broom of love, and sweep the chamber of your heart.” (Bani of Kabir Sahib)

“Only when we have made our hearts clean, can the Lord – Who is immaculate and pure – manifest there. He is already residing there, but he will manifest. We don’t need to bring some other Lord from outside. The false worldly thoughts come from outside and fill up our within. But the Almighty Lord is already innate in our within. He does not descend from some other realm.” (Baba Somanath’s commentary)

“But my Friend resides within me.” (Bani of Kabir Sahib)

“What need do I have to look for Him outside? When we direct our yearning toward the Lord over and over, we become his very form. Then we say, ‘He has become my true friend. I have no more need to wait for His coming. If He were separate from me, then I would have to search for Him and wait for Him. But I am in Him and He is in me. So now what is the point of seeking Him? Where would I search and who would I wait for?’” (Baba Somanath’s commentary)

Meditation

“Without eyes, you see; without ears, you hear.” (Bani of Kabir Sahib)

"To see without eyes, to hear without ears – this is an inner experience.

Guru Nanak has also spoken on this subject: ‘To see without eyes; to hear without ears.’

All the saints teach the same thing. No matter how hard you may try, you will not be able to have the darshan [vision] of that inner Lord using these physical eyes.

Ramdas Swami tells us: ‘These eyes of flesh cannot see Him; you can behold the Lord only with the eye of knowledge (the inner eye).’

He cannot be seen with these eyes of flesh. Only when you look with the inner eye of knowledge will you behold Him. In the same way, you will hear without ears. Through the physical ears, you hear the sounds of the outer words. But the inner Dhun is resounding of itself, and that Sound is heard without ears. We hear outer sounds through the physical ears, but if the inner Sound did not exist, our sense organs would not function – our very life-breath would cease." (Baba Somanath’s commentary)

Program Outline

The Great Soul Soami Ji Maharaj (Radhasoami) was initiated by Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras, India, and after Sant Tulsi's passing in 1843, Soami Ji was affiliated with a successor of Sant Tulsi by the name of Maharaj Girdhari Sahib. Thanks to Pramod for being my contact at the Lucknow Satsang, and Roohi for translating material from Hindi into English. We are blessed to access new verses of mystic poetry of Saints, which helps inspire spiritual practitioners to go within and meditate upon the inner Light and Sound of God. History can be liberating, opening up new vistas of appreciation and avenues of wisdom, as we endeavour to sit at the feet of the Masters.

Part of a Shabd of Soami Ji Maharaj from Lucknow:

"My MASTER introduced me to the identity of Soul, and I realised the self as highest element. (Main)
The Formless Purush is beyond the second door.
Beholding Him, the soul became blissful. (1)
Inside this body is the whole creation of the Vedas,
The Perfect MASTER showed this to me. (2)
Inside is seen brilliant sunlight...
and in the inner sky
a huge ocean. (3)
Inside the inner cave are billions of suns..."

Keith Akers writes: “The dispute over vegetarianism in the early church shows that the leadership of the Jerusalem church was vegetarian. "In meditation, the true condition of the soul is exposed, and God can reveal our failings in order to heal and bless us… If we spend more time in meditation, we can recognize the relationship between the visible and invisible world ever more distinctly and clearly." (Wisdom of the Sadhu, The Teachings of Sundar Singh)

7 Teachings of Sant Mat and the Seven Spiritual Principles of Sant Mat #santmat #sant_mat #radhasoami #initiation

7 Teachings of Sant Mat and the Seven Spiritual Principles of Sant Mat

7 Teachings of Sant Mat

1. God is Real.

2. God is Love, the Ocean of Love and Compassion.

3. All of the world scriptures teach about the same manifestation of God as inner mystical Light and Sound.

4. Our true identity is soul, the Self. Soul is part of God and therefore is, like God, pure love.

5. During this human existence we have an opportunity to experience God.

6. As we experience communing with God's love during meditation -- Surat Shabd Yoga -- we can rise above body-consciousness and explore Inner Space, the "Kingdom of the Heavens" that are within us. "We travel back from the realm of Darkness to the realm of Light, from the Light to divine Sound, and from the realm of Sound to the Soundless State [Anami, Radhaswami, Anadi Purush, Ram]." (Swami Santsevi Ji Maharaj) The drop merges back into the Ocean of Love.

7. As we get initiated into the Mysteries of the Spirit by a Living Teacher (Master, Sant Satguru), the purpose of our life is fulfilled. Reuniting with God is our reason to be here: "It was for the sake of the God-conscious beings that our True Lord created this earth, and began this play of death and birth". ("Adi Granth") Guru Kabir says: "For millions of years you have slept. This morning, will you not wake?".

Seven Spiritual Principles of Sant Mat

The Following Principles Below are Recited Daily by Some in India:

1. Ultimate Reality is beyond any beginning or end, infinite, beyond birth, beyond the senses, all-pervading yet even beyond pervasiveness. It must, therefore, be understood as the Supreme Being. This Essential Element is known in Santmat [the Teachings of the Saints] as the Lord of All and is the foundation of all things. This Being is beyond both the inanimate and animate aspects of nature. It is without qualities and beyond qualities. Its nature is infinite, imperishable, all-powerful. It is beyond time and space, beyond sound and beyond form (Nirguna). It is the One without a second. The Supreme Being is beyond the scope of the mind, the intellect and the senses. This entire universe is powered by the energy of this Being. This Being is not human. It is not manifested in physical form. It has existence beyond the illusion of maya [illusion], and there is nothing that exists outside of it. It is the Being which is eternal and is in existence from the beginning. Santmat considers this Being to be the Divine Reality, and this [knowing or merging with] this Being is the goal of all spirituality.

2. The individual soul is an inseparable part of the Supreme Being.

3. The physical world of nature was created. It has an origin and an end.

4. The individual soul (jiva), bound by illusion (maya), remains in the cycle of death and birth. This is the cause of one’s suffering. In order to escape from this cycle of death and birth we must experience realization of this Supreme Being.

5. By practicing devotion through these four techniques: Manas Japa (Simran, recitation of a divine name or names), Manas Dhyana (Dhyan, focus on the divine form), Dristi Sadhana (Yoga of Inner Light, Inner Seeing, Inner Light Meditation, focus on the Infinitesimal Point), and Nadanusandhana Yoga (Surat Shabd Yoga, concentration on the inner divine Sounds) — the practitioner consecutively transcends the realms of darkness, Light, and Sound which cloak the Supreme Truth — the Divine Reality. Only in a human body an individual soul is able to achieve unity with the Divine. [In other forms of existence, animal, etc…, it is not possible to tread the spiritual path.]

6. Lying, stealing, intake of intoxicating substances, adultery, and violence (including harming other beings) are the five sins to be avoided. Eating meat or fish is also considered to be a form of violence and should be avoided. The aspirants of Santmat must abstain from these vices.*

(* Note: In Buddhism and other Eastern Religions (Jainism, Taoism, Hinduism) these five abstinences are known as the Panch Shila — “The Five Precepts”.)

7. The following are considered to be the requirements for the attainment liberation: (A) Trust and belief in God; (B) Commitment to seek the Divine within; (C) Devotion and service to a Satguru — spiritual Master; (D) Satsang, listening to the teaching and spiritual discourse including study of the Teaching of the Saints and the scriptures; and (E) Dhyana, diligent meditation practice. (“Padavali of Maharshi Mehi”, also quoted in, “Harmony Of All Religions”)

Too Many Books Are Still Not Enough! by James Bean #santmat #radhasoami #sant_mat

Too Many Books Are Still Not Enough!
by James Bean

For a very long time I’ve been a collector, researcher and lover of books. These are for the most part translations of writings from other places and other times: Egypt and the Middle East, Near East, and further to the East, as in India. These can be described as sacred texts, rare spiritual classics, world scriptures, writings of mystics, saints, Sufis, and especially the Sant poet-mystics of India. I also continue to have a major interest in those “lost books of the Bible” or what’s known as “extra-canonical” or “apocryphal” texts — in other words, someone else’s scriptures — other Bibles from other branches of Judaism, Christianity, and various Gnostic movements of the ages.

I find it to be rather liberating actually to be able to explore the roots of a spiritual path or world religion, to take things right back to the very beginning, or before the beginning, opening one’s self up to significant and sometimes fairly radical discoveries, coming upon new or unanticipated insights or realizations about what is genuine, authentic, meaningful, and true. This approach of examining the foundations of spiritual movements, no longer bound by time, no longer tethered to one’s own particular cultural province or bias, in my case has caused me to change my religion on more than one occasion over the decades, and make other major course corrections along the way!

Access to the wisdom of great sages and mystics of the centuries has certainly provided me with inspiration I previously did not know existed and has kept me on the path, given me a clarity about spiritual practice (meditation) I otherwise would never have known. I am especially fond of the poet-mystics of the East.

And some of what I’ve researched or simply enjoyed reading before meditation time, or before falling asleep at night, gets bookmarked and often included as material for my Spiritual Awakening Radio podcasts, and sometimes in articles. As my spiritual teacher once said, “What’s the use of receiving this human form if we do not serve others in thought, word, and deed.”

I love sharing passages from the teachings of various spiritual masters, especially from rare books few have heard of or have access to in the West. This can be in the form of a reading during a podcast, or talk somewhere, or via social media. I even created a couple of spiritual e-libraries online, one at my Spiritual Awakening Radio website, and more recently, an expanded library at my Sant Mat Radhasoami blog. There are so many free online books these days one can link to. Whether one’s interest is in Dead Sea Scrolls, Books of Enoch, Gnostic and other Gospels of the early centuries AD, Syriac-Aramaic contemplative mystics, Mandaean scriptures, the Manichaeans, Jesus Sutras, those medieval Christian mystics of Europe, Sufi poetry, Sikh scriptures, the Path of the Masters — recent and lesser-known contemporary living Masters from rural India as well — we are blessed these days with so many e-libraries and uploaded books hosted at countless sites. At one’s fingertips and a couple of clicks away are so many wonderful collections of poetry and prose, beneficial pathways to wisdom.

I know a thousand “Rumi’s” the world is yearning to hear, to be soothed by the Voice of the Soul that speaks through them all. Hafiz, Shams of Tabriz, Sarmad, Kabir, Rabia, Mira Bai, Daya Bai, Sahjo Bai, Tukaram, Hazrat Sultan Bahu, Baba Farid, Guru Nanak, Dariya Sahib, Tulsi Sahib, Surdas, Namdev, Ravidas, Paltu, Sant Radhaswami Sahib, Maharshi Mehi, and many more besides, right up to the living present — countless are lovers of the Beloved. _/|\_

One can say the journey is far, that much of the inward journey remains to be traversed...so many planes, so many levels, so many heavens to pass through on our way back to God. There is however, another way of seeing this, whether experienced in meditation or not. Heaven may seem far, and yet, the Reality is that it is near — close by — in our midst, within us, even now, in the living present. We are already connected to the Positive Power, the God Power as we repeat (do the simran) of God's Name, see the Inner Light, hear the Inner Sound. Here’s something to rest upon and be inspired by: Whether we know it or not in our experience, the soul is already in Sach Khand, has always been in Sach Khand. There’s no other place for the soul to be other than the soul level (Sat Lok, Sach Khand, the true, eternal, timeless dwelling-place of all souls). We are (the soul is) wearing several coverings: physical, also subtle bodies: astral, causal, mental, and etheric. We have to contend with the outer distractions of the five senses, and yet, our true identity remains what it always has been: soul or spirit. Sant Mat Meditation is about knowing this, experiencing this, shifting awareness from the outer world to the world of within. We are drops of soul consciousness from the Ocean of Love. We are already in heaven but don’t know it. And, as Rumi might say, this is “the Secret of Secrets”. A great Master by the name of Huzur Baba Sawan Singh was once asked, "How long does it take you to go to Sach Khand (the spiritual realm, Sat Lok)"? He closed his eyes for fifteen seconds, and then opened them again, saying, "just that long". This is the real Secret of secrets. Whether it takes fifteen seconds or perhaps longer, may you experience this for yourself in meditation.

"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus."  (Ephesians 2:6)

“The soul is a particle or wave (ansa) of the Supreme Being just as the ray (ansa) of the Sun is an emanation of the Sun.” (Huzur Maharaj, Prem Patra Radhasoami)

"The greatest mistake of a soul is non-recognition of its real Self, and it can only be rectified by recognizing itself. Know thyself;
recognize thyself; be immersed in thyself -- you will attain the Divine."
(Sant Mahavira of Jainism)

"You will become available to your true Self by doing inner meditation practice."  -- Swami Achyutanand Baba

Mystic Bhakti Poetry of Tulsi Sahib, Part One: Tulsi Sahib, Great Grandfather of Modern-day Sant Mat, Part One #santmat

Mystic Bhakti Poetry of Tulsi Sahib, Part One: Tulsi Sahib, Great Grandfather of Modern-day Sant Mat, Part One

Param Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras, India is the "great grandfather" of modern-day Sant Mat, as many of the well-known and lesser-known Sant Mat lineages can be traced back to him. Tulsi was the Master who first coined the term "Sant Mat", meaning, "Teachings of the Saints", as a single term for India's great Saints and bhakti poet-mystics. Of this great galaxy of Sants he once said:

"I now describe what the word 'Sant' means. All those who have attained the Inaccessible are included in the category of Sants.

"I have described the status of Sants and sung hymns composed by them. Sants have traversed the path to the Inaccessible region and their soul has attained the Truth or Essence.

"Nanak, Dadu, Dariya Saheb, Mira Bai, Soor Das, Kabir and Nabbaji have all reached the Mystic Sky and have given out the secrets. Their souls have got across and merged there.

"Though their teachings are one and the same, their ways of teaching are different. Indeed, all Sants have proceeded along the same path. All of them ascended along the same Current of Shabd (inner Sound), and got across......

"What Sants have said about Sant Mat is what they saw with their own eyes. They have sung of it in the form of couplets and hymns.... Sants have spoken of the secrets of Shabd and the path on which Surat has to proceed......" ("Param Sant Tulsi Sahib")

The Compositions of Tulsi Sahib: Shabdavali; Ratan Sagar, Ghat Ramayan and Padma Sagar

"Swami Ji [Sant Radhaswami Sahib] later adopted the same expression, "Sant Mat," in his works. The two Saints thus brought the teachings of all Saints under this comprehensive designation.

"Tulsi Sahib's works consist of Shabdavali; Ratan Sagar, Ghat Ramayan and a small unfinished book called Padma Sagar. Shabdavali is a collection of miscellaneous compositions set to different ragas (scales) of Indian classical music, and deals with various aspects of Sant Mat. Ghat Ramayan and Ratan Sagar have been written in the form of dialogues with disciples and seekers. Ghat Ramayan deals with the various religious doctrines prevalent at that time, and explains their meaning in the light of Sant Mat. Ratan Sagar deals with the mystery of creation, heaven and hell, Kal or the Negative Power, karmas, mind and death. It also sings the glory of perfect Saints and extols the value of their company and satsang. Lastly, it explains how Saints take care of the soul of the disciple when it leaves the body.

"Tulsi Sahib's works include words and expressions of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian, the last being the court language. of the time in most of the royal courts in the South. These languages, along with Marathi, must have constituted a part of his education. But, besides these, he has freely used words of Braj, Avadhi, Rajasthani (Marwari), Gujrati, Punjabi and Maithili, which leads one to conclude that, like many other Saints, he must have traveled widely in V.P., Rajasthan, Gujrat, Punjab and Bihar. But his permanent abode was a hut in the small village of Jogia, situated on the outskirts of Hathras. He lived here until he passed away in 1843 at the age of 80." ("Tulsi Sahib-- Saint of Hathras")

"Tulsi Saheb used to go often to places quite far from Hathras wrapping his body in a blanket and with a stick in hand. He usually used to remain in a state of withdrawal, and in that very state, an incessant flow of utterances concerning the secrets of higher regions used to emanate from his mouth like a babbling stream. Ghat Ramayan, Shabdavali (collection of hymns) and Ratan Sagar are well known works of Tulsi Saheb. Another book which he wrote but remained unfinished is Padam Sagar. All these books were written after Tulsi Sahib's coming to Hathras....

"Near the above mentioned banyan tree, a stupendous two-storeyed building had been constructed later on by Tulsi Saheb's devotees, which is still there and in which he stayed till he left his mortal coil. In this very building there is a place marked, where Tulsi Saheb used to sit whilst initiating people in Sant Mat. There is also a hemispherical cave where he used to practise Bhajan." ("Param Sant Tulsi Saheb")

From, The Ghat Ramayana, of Tulsi Sahib:

"They should worship Sat by means of Surat, and this will enable them to reach the regions beyond the sky. They should accept the teachings of Sants.....

"I have described in detail Sat Mat with which worldly ways are incompatible. I have tasted the bliss of the original abode which alone is true. The world, on the other hand, is only a fleeting show, and only if one ponders over this, one will be able to realize the essence of Sat Mat and then alone will one's boat of life be able to cross the ocean of worldly existence. Great reverberation of Shabd is going on within, and one should fix one's attention on it and dance with joy.

"0 Jiva! Give up all blind adherences and beliefs, concentrate within and seek the Supreme Being there, adopting Him alone as your Isht or goal. Do ponder over what I say and see for yourself with eyes wide open that there is none in this world whom you can call your own. You should adopt the Supreme Being alone as your prop and support. Very strange are the ways of the world, which you will realise if only you can vanquish your mind......

"Blessed with the merciful gaze of Satguru I have been able to get Darshan [Vision] of the Invisible (Supreme) Being. My Isht [goal] is Sat Purush whose abode is Sat Lok. He is all-mercy and is beyond Triloki. My attention is riveted on His holy feet and I have His Darshan all the time. I have reached the original abode....I have been blessed with Darshan of the Supreme Being. ("Param Sant Tulsi Saheb", Agra)

The Essential Teaching of Sant Mat

The Essential Teaching of Sant Mat

Swami Vyasanand Ji Maharaj

"In spite of the variants in their origins, the goal of the Sants [Saints, Masters] is one: realization of the Divine and the attainment of the state of absolute joy and peace. Having considered the perennial wisdom found in their teachings, we can say with certainty that the underlying teachings of Sants are essentially in agreement.

"The question arises: What is this essential teaching? The answer is: The Divine Reality is one and the path to realize that Reality is within each of us. The path is not found in the nine gates (i.e. through the sensory organs) of the body but only through the tenth gate (the third eye or the spiritual eye). The body cannot tread this path—only the inner consciousness along with the mind, intellect, and ego principle can travel this path. However, during the last and final stages of the inner spiritual path, the conscious soul alone journeys and reaches the Divine. This path is very subtle. Sant Mehi described it as being, 'more subtle than even the point of the needle.' Sants unanimously agree that the path to the Divine can be taken up by any human being belonging to any caste, social status, gender, ethnicity or country."

Fund-raising Campaign

Today is Giving Tuesday, kicking off the charitable season with a celebration of giving and philanthropy.

Dear Spiritual Awakening Radio Listeners Around the World:

On behalf of Spiritual Awakening Radio -- these Sant Mat Satsang Podcasts exploring the Path of the Masters, I want to wish you all the very best for the upcoming Christmas and holiday season and for the New Year 2019. May it be a year full of health, happiness, peace, deeper mediations and progress on all fronts. I also wish for 2019 to not only keep on going... but growing, for it to be a year of expansion of this mission, reaching more people in more podcast venues, in more places, presenting more research into this rare Path of the Masters, placing yet more out-of-print books online; another year of sharing material in English that has up-to-now only been accessible in Hindi, or known only to a small number of people, uploading more spiritual classics of the Saints, Gnostics, Sufis, and other Mystics, making them available to everyone for free, giving them a permanent home on the web... exploring all aspects of the Path: teachings, meditation practice, practical guidance about this Path, and ahimsa ethics (including in the area of diet, as in vegetarian and vegan) -- education for a more peaceful planet.

In this realm maya (illusion) seems to be quite successful at occupying minds with infinite kinds of distractions. As Kabir has said:

"Delusion fills the three worlds,
delusion everywhere.
Kabir says (and he’s thought about it),
you live in Delusion Village.
They don’t listen to wise words
and won’t think for themselves.
Kabir continues to scream.
The world goes by like a dream.”

"Blessed are the souls who in today's materialistic world have an inclination towards spirituality." (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj)

"Whatever actions bring you closer to God, they are good actions. Whatever actions take you away from God, they are bad actions." (Kirpal Singh)

"Dear Aspirants! Each day strive to do both kinds of satsang: inner and outer. Outer satsang is listening to the teachings of great saints and studying the sacred texts. Inner satsang is the practice of one-pointed meditation." (Maharishi Mehi Paramhans)

"Just as a coded document shows the way to a hidden treasure, just so this Bijak shows the way to realize the soul. It teaches such instructive words to the soul, but there is seldom anyone to understand them." (Bijak of Kabir)

"Only the connoisseur, who will test the Shabda [word], and listen to the teachings with full attention, and within whom these teachings will dwell, only he will understand this." (Anurag Sagar)

"O my friend, I speak nothing
from myself; I only utter what
the Beloved puts into my mouth."
(Guru Nanak)

"You can’t read your way to enlightenment." -- Stephan Hoeller

The focus of the bhakti Sants of India is not on constructing earthly temples, building organizational structures, or temples of the mind. Rather, they guide their students into entering the Temple of the Spirit. The Portal or Doorway to this Temple is within, at the Third Eye Center. See the Charts of the Heavens - Inner Regions - Planes - Levels - Spheres of Creation According to Sant Mat:

Masters say: "An intense longing to meet the Lord during one's lifetime is the first and foremost qualification for Initiation. 'Seek, and ye shall find', is the principle'".

"Do not cease seeking day or night until you find the Mysteries of the Kingdom of Light, which will purify you, make you into pure Light and lead you into the Kingdom of the Light." -- Yeshua, Book of Faith Wisdom (Pistis Sophia)

"What your own eyes cannot see, your human ears do not hear, your physical hands can not touch, and what is inconceivable to the human mind -- that I will give to you!" -- Yeshua, Gospel of Thomas

Being properly initiated into the secrets of meditation -- the Mysteries of the Kingdom of the Heavens -- by a living Master is the beginning of the Inward Journey. Then, go and do the meditation.

For a thorough introduction to the teachings about Sant Mat Spirituality and Meditation, see: An Introduction to Sant Mat -- The Path of the Masters -- India's Sants and Poet-Mystics (Lovers of the Beloved), and Surat Shabd Yoga Meditation Practice: Bhakti of the Inner Light and Sound of God: http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/santmat

The Five Precepts of Sant Mat (a Spiritual Way of Life)

At the time of Initiation one vows to practice meditation each day. The spiritual path is a life-long commitment.

+ Moral Requirements for Initiation in Sant Mat

1. Abstinence from alcohol and drugs (intoxicants);

2. Non-Violence (Ahimsa in thought, word, and deed) including vegetarianism* (abstinence from meat, fish, and eggs) -- see footnote* below on vegetarianism and veganism;

3. Lead a truthful life;

4. Practice non-stealing -- an honest, ethical source of income;

5. Loyalty to one's spouse;

+ Another Version of The Five Precepts

1) Refrain from taking the life of sentient beings. [This precept requires strict adherence to a lacto-vegetarian* diet: no meat, fish, poultry or eggs (fertilized or non-fertilized).] (See footnote* below on vegetarianism and veganism);

2) Refrain from speaking what is not true.

3) Refrain from taking what is not yours.

4) Refrain from sexual misconduct.

5) Refrain from using intoxicants.

Initiation into Inner Light and Sound Meditation

In the Sant tradition the complete methods of meditation practice are communicated at the time of Initiation (Diksha) by a living Master (Sant Satguru) or by a representative of a Master. A living Teacher, being fully acquainted with the 'landscape' of Inner Space, is able to impart to initiate-candidates valuable guidance on how to safely make the journey of ascension to the Inner Regions during meditation practice within. This kind of spiritual transmission and the details of Surat Shabd Yoga practice are not found in books, old scriptures of the past, and are not for sale, but are given freely to seekers by a living Teacher.

"What is the place to be reached? When we close our eyes and see darkness, this is the realm of ignorance. When the Light dawns within you, then you understand that you reside in noble regions. In darkness resides ignorance and in Light resides Knowledge. For example, as we are sitting in light right now we are able to see one another. However, if the electric power goes out ensuing total darkness we will not be able to see others. We will not even be aware of other people, coming and going. In this analogy Light signifies knowledge and darkness signifies ignorance. In the same manner when we see darkness with our eyes closed, we are in the realm of death and re-birth [we are unaware of our true nature]. When we come out of the realm of darkness and enter into the realm of Light, we will at the same time transcend the web of death. It is not possible that we can remain in darkness and be free from the net of birth and death. Having achieved inner Light we can be liberated from the cycle of birth and death." (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj)

The Goal of Sant Mat Spirituality and Meditation: Our Path Back to the Source -- The Inward Journey Back to God, by Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj

"Sant Mat (the path and teachings as taught and practiced by Saints [Sant Satgurus]) delineates the path of union of soul with God. The teachings of the saints explain the re-uniting as follows:

"The individual soul has descended from the higher worlds [the Realm of the Divine] to this city of illusion, bodily existence. It has descended from the Soundless State to the essence of Sound, from that Sound to Light, and finally from the realm of Light to the realm of Darkness. The qualities (dharmas, natural tendencies) of the sense organs draw us downward and away from our true nature.

"The nature of the soul (atman) draws us upwards and inwards and establishes us in our own true nature. Returning to our origins involves turning inward: withdrawal of consciousness from the senses and the sense objects in order to go upward from the darkness to the realms of Light and Sound. [We experience this phenomenon of withdrawal as we pass from waking consciousness to deep sleep.] Another way to express this is to go inward from the external sense organs to the depth of the inner self. (Both of these expressions are the metaphors that signify the same movement). The natural tendencies of the soul (atman) are to move from outward to inward. The current of consciousness which is dispersed in the nine gates of the body and the senses, must be collected at the tenth gate.

"The tenth gate is the gathering point of consciousness. Therein lies the path for our return. The tenth gate is also known as the sixth chakra, the third eye, bindu, the center located between the two eyebrows. This is the gateway through which we leave the gates of the sense organs and enter in the divine realms and finally become established in the soul. We travel back from the Realm of Darkness to the Realm of Light, from the Light to the Divine Sound, and from the Realm of Sound to the Soundless State. This is called turning back to the Source.

"This is what dharma or religion really intends to teach us. This is the essence of dharma." (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj, "Harmony Of All Religions").

* Note about Vegetarianism, Veganism, and Sant Mat: Traditionally in India the diet of Sant Mat and the yoga system generally has been, and is, lacto-vegetarian. But, if Buddha, Mahavara, Kabir, Guru Nanak, Tulsi Das, Tulsi Sahib, and so many other great Saints were with us now, I am convinced they not only would be vegetarian, but that they would be advocating the vegan diet as the ideal in keeping with ahimsa values of non-violence and peace for the 21st Century. I believe, based on the current practices of the dairy industry in India and around the world, that classic Saints such as Guru Kabir, Guru Nanak, Tukarama, Ravidas, Tulsi Das, Namdev, Dariya Sahib, etc... if they were here today, would not only be advocating a vegetarian diet but a vegan diet. These days, many are making this transition, including in Sant Mat. This is the direction that the vegetarian movement is headed in. Vegetarianism is going vegan.

Below Are NOTES About Today's PODCAST (7-3-18)

There is No Spirituality Without Spirit: "So long as you do not experience the withdrawal of spirit within you [during meditation], the spiritual path is a myth for you. To attain this experience, you have to perform the spiritual practices with full zest and fervour every day as prescribed by a living master." (The Spiritual Seekers Guide)

This spiritual exercise of repeating God’s Name (Simran) helps to uplift our day, to bring some of the heaven and bliss of meditation into our down-to-earth daily experience, and is a way to remember in a world of forgetfulness, to remain awake in a world of spiritual slumber, to abide in Truth, no longer dominated by the forces of illusion. Be who you really are wherever you go, "a spiritual being having a human experience."

"Sit silent," says Tukarama, "compose thy mind and make it pure, and then happiness will know no bounds. God will certainly come and dwell in his heart. This will be the result of thy long effort. Meditate time after time on God's name ...... says Tuka, "that this will surely come to pass, if thou hast one-pointed devotion".

"Without doing the practices of Sumiran [Simran, the Remembrance of God by the repetition of His Name or Names] and Dhyan [meditation upon the form of a Sant Satguru], the hold of Karmas past and present on the mind will not be loosened and therefore the mind will always be wavering with thoughts.... The Lord is bountiful. Your entire life must revolve round Him. Subject yourself to this way of life. There is no room for dejection. With firm faith in the Divine Hand you should aspire for Truth. You will realise the Creator within you. God helps those who realise their own limitations and pine for the Ultimate Truth in all humility."
(The Spiritual Seekers Guide)

Till All Souls Are Emancipated: "The human frame becomes blessed when the Supreme Father descends in it. Such a person enjoys the highest bliss...Param Guru Soami Ji Maharaj was pleased to ordain that the Supreme Current would continue to remain in the world in human form so long as the entire creation is not redeemed."  (The Spiritual Seekers Guide)

"The Way of Sages -- Santmat -- encompasses a set of ageless moral values, a belief in a Higher Power, and most importantly a methodology for realization of the Highest and the state of absolute Peace within one’s own self. Incorporated in that methodology is an interior road map, as it were, of the various stages, spiritual landmarks, and relevant advice from a qualified adept for achieving the goal.

"Santmat is not confined to the beliefs, rituals, and dogmas of any specific religions. Being universal in nature it embraces the Truths found in most of the world’s sacred texts and religious traditions. Santmat emphasizes the universal thread running through all the various traditions.

"The attainment of ultimate spiritual Peace and supreme Joy within oneself is the ultimate goal of Santmat as described by Maharishi Mehi and other great sages. Although this path is not content with meager goals, it is extremely easy to understand and practice. Progress is certain, although, for most, eager and persistent effort is required."  (TheWayOfSages.com)

Introductory Meditation Instructions From Huzur Baba Sawan Singh

"As to any exercises which might help you, until the time of your initiation, I can only suggest at this time that you may sit in meditation, in a quiet place, like your own bedroom or some room as secluded as possible, and with spine and body erect, in a comfortable position, fix all the attention at the center just back of the two eyes, and slowly repeat the word RADHASWAMI, fixing the mind on the Supreme Being who is your Supreme Father."  (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh)

The light humans seek outside lies within the soul.

"I am not this hair,

I am not this skin,

I am the soul that lives within."

-- India.Arie

"On this ever-revolving wheel of life

The individual self goes round and round

Through life after life, believing itself

To be a separate creature, until

It sees its identity with the Lord

Of Love and attains immortality

In the indivisible Whole."

-- The Shvetashvatara Upanishad

Like Galileo discovering new worlds through the lens of his telescope, mystics have been trying to tell humanity for eons of something quite similar. The reason why the contemplative state of being is still hidden from most of us is that, unlike Galileo’s telescope, in order to look through this particular lens, the third eye or inner vision, we mustn’t focus on the outward sensory impressions, but go in the opposite direction: into Inner Space. Look through the lens of the third eye to access the world of within. Tune the inner radio dial, listening for the subtle inner sounds coming from beyond the silence. This is how to access the Kingdom of the Heavens, the Inner Space within you. The spiritual path is all about this: transformation. Beyond a certain point, when we’ve gone as far as we can go on our own at trying to figure out the mysteries of reality and the cosmos, inspiration can come from others (we trust). The deluxe version of this mentoring process (for a few of us) comes from living and enlightened spiritual masters. (James Bean, Spiritual Awakening Radio)

"While we sojourn in this dark region of matter, we have to deal with the negative power. With him we must contend in our struggles for spiritual freedom. It is his duty to try to hold us here, while it is our duty to try to escape. The resulting struggle purges us and makes us strong, and fits us for our homeward journey. This everlasting fight, this struggle in a welter of pain and blood and heart cries, is designed by the Supreme Father to purge us and make us clean, ready for our homeward ascent. Let us never become discouraged. All of this is designed by the Father for our benefit. It is much as if one enters a gymnasium to take exercise. If we meet these difficulties in the right spirit, we shall greatly profit by them. The idea of pain and struggle is to purge us and inspire in us a longing to rise above the regions of pain and shadow." (Julian P. Johnson, Path of the Masters)

"The highest form of religious practice is the creation of spiritual love within the heart. When the living flames of love have been removed from religious movements and sects, these become empty shells and miserable shams. Lasting love can only be attained at the lotus feet of a mystic adept, a living Godman. The teachings of such a saint will not ensnare the aspirant in a web of rites and ceremonies. He teaches only the practical evocation of the power of love that dwells within the soul." (George Arnsby Jones, The Mystic Adept: Love Incarnate)

Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

"When we close our eyes and do not see any objects, this does not mean that there exists nothing that can be seen. In other words, the shapeless darkness is also an object. Unfortunately, we cannot even see pure darkness because we are constantly thinking about the images of the world, and instead of seeing darkness we see the imaginary sights projected on the screen of inner mind. Without practicing the meditation of focusing in the darkness, it is not possible to see the subtle Light that lies deep within. The experience of Divine Light in the meditation brings joy, and the progress then becomes rapid. Consequently, one’s faith and conviction becomes stronger." (Swami Vyasanand, The Inward Journey of the Soul)

"The serenity arises, the Soundless Music plays only when you are empty, thoughtless and totally devoid of desires. The serenity is the Buddha and the Buddha is the serenity. In the vast emptiness of the Buddha, God appears, flows through your being, playing the Sound of Silence." (Experiencing the Sound of Silence, recent article at Speaking Tree)

Meditation Instructions to Initiates by Master Kirpal Singh

Kirpal Singh: "The Light within should be penetrated while fixing your gaze intently in its center when it will grow stronger and burst to give you further way up." (Spiritual Elixir)

Kirpal Singh: "As you look within, you will see a sky, or blue sky: If you look minutely into it, you will find it studded with stars, or you may see pinpoints of Light. If so, try to locate the big star out of them, and fix your whole attention on that. Then you may see the inner sun or moon. If so, focus all your attention into the middle; it will break into pieces, and you will cross it. Beyond you will see the radiant form of the Master or his Master." (Spiritual Elixir)

Kirpal Singh: "The inner Light does not come or go. It is always there within. It appears only when we are attuned and concentrated and disappears as soon as there is the slightest dispersion. The Light will not vanish if you just keep your inner gaze constantly fixed." (Spiritual Elixir)

Kirpal Singh: "Once you discover this Light and learn to live by it, your whole existence will be changed. Love will permeate your very being and it will burst forth from the very pores of your body, transmuting all dross into sterling gold." (Spiritual Elixir)

A SATSANG WITHOUT WALLS

This is the April 21st, 2018 (4-21-18) Sant Mat Spirituality and Meditation Satsang Newsletter (Blog, Digest, Document, E-Booklet,) of much poetry and prose -- words of light and love from various spiritual Masters, spiritual classics or scriptures. Enjoy all of the readings below. May they provide you with some helpful satsang reading material wherever you are in the world, near or far, and lead to a further in-depth exploration of the teachings of the Masters, including from lesser-known or newly translated material you may not have encountered before in English.

This Sant Mat Radhasoami E-Newsletter is dedicated to the Path of the Masters (Sant Satgurus of the Past, the Living Present, and Future), and to the Supreme Being, the Lord of the Soul Who is the Ocean of Love and All-Consciousness, and explores the poetry, prose, spiritual discourses, books, scriptures, letters, prayers, ahimsa ethics, audio, videos, philosophy, cosmology, gnosticism, meditation, mysticism, and history of the Masters from a traditional Indian perspective that's non-sectarian, and might also include quotes from various world religions in harmony with the Way of the Saints, the Path of the Masters and Mystics.

NOTE: This newsletter is for educational purposes only. Fair Use of Quotations: "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research..."

NOTE: This newsletter is supportive of, The Murar Declaration -- the universal principles of peace, affection, harmony and cooperation as outlined at the Sant Mat conclave known as Spircon 2010, a historic event held in Agra attended by the leadership and representatives of several branches of Sant Mat & Radhasoami lineages.

NOTE: The Usage of the Term "Sant Mat": "Sant Mat" means: "The Teachings ('Mat') of the Saints or Sages" or "Path of the Masters". In India it's common knowledge that the term "Sant Mat" was coined or adapted by Param Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras during the 19th Century. "Sant Mat" was adopted and popularized by Tulsi Sahib as a new name for this spiritual path or genre of mysticism, but the Sant tradition, with its many guru-lineages or branches, is a spiritual movement that dates back many centuries to ancient India.

"What's the use of receiving this human form if we do not serve others in thought, word, and deed. If we hold our thoughts only on worldly material things and refuse to think of that which is higher and more subtle, then our faith in the Transcendental will inevitably diminish." ("Quintessence of Yoga: Secret of All Success", a Sant Mat publication)

“Human beings are not on earth to be citizens, or taxpayers, or socially engineered pawns of other human beings; rather they are here in order to grow, to transform, to become their authentic selves.” (Stephan A. Hoeller, Freedom: Alchemy for a Voluntary Society)

"Whatever actions bring you closer to God, they are good actions. Whatever actions take you away from God, they are bad actions." (Kirpal Singh)

"All Masters came to unite men, not to separate man from man. They were the lovers of God, and they taught men how to love all humanity. You will see, this is one side of the thing that we have before us. We are to love all humanity because God resides in every heart." (Kirpal Singh)

"The night is a jungle -- do your work (worldly duties) in the daytime and then benefit from the night. The true purpose of having the human form is to make daily progress toward the great Goal, so sit down each day and see where you are. As the renunciate leaves everything and goes to the woods, you can sit down nightly in your home, forgetting the world and freeing yourself from all entanglements." (Kirpal Singh, The Night is a Jungle)

Till All Souls Are Emancipated

"The human frame becomes blessed when the Supreme Father descends in it. Such a person enjoys the highest bliss. He does not hate anybody. His desire to help others will be genuine. Universal love for man will pervade his entire being. Man should first get rid of the shackles of 'Kal and Maya'. Then he can wish the same for others. Mother Nature wants to evolve everybody and will look to the spiritual evolution of all in due course. Param Guru Soami Ji Maharaj asked His Star Disciple (Huzur Maharaj) to put up a list of all those for whom He desired emancipation. Huzur Maharaj submitted that the entire Humanity be redeemed from the clutches of 'Kal and Maya'. Param Guru Soami Ji Maharaj was pleased to ordain that the Supreme Current would continue to remain in the world in human form so long as the entire creation is not redeemed."

New Horizons of Spirituality

"The spiritual practice adopted in Sant Mat is very subtle. It requires much wisdom and concentration. Very few people enter this path and very few people adopt its practice. People join this Faith for some show or for some gain and are deprived of its enormous benefits. Ordinary persons cannot reap the full benefit of Sant Mat as so few have a real desire for the search for Truth. This creation has been under the sway of Kal for many ages. Good 'Sanskari Jivas' [souls] are very few. Even though Santmat is there and the Satguru has manifested, there are some impediments. To practice Sant Mat requires right attitude and approach. The person who does not see the destructive nature of this universe will not become detached from it. Even though he adopts spiritual life he will be wavering and wandering. The gates of '*Santmat' are always open so that souls may acquire noble sanskaras through satsang, service and sacrifice."  (Spiritual Seekers Guide)

"To find a Satguru is itself a very rare and precious experience. Are you able to realise this? You should bring in a change in your outlook and practice. You should experience the Truth of spirituality in your life. You have to do the internal practice sincerely. If any one is lagging behind in this preparation and practice he will come under elimination process. You should be alert always. Be true to yourself. Give proper place to 'Satkarni' [true, spiritual endeavors] in your life. Do not turn away from it. If there is lull in the practice, service, sacrifice and prasad all become useless. Regular spiritual practice is fundamental. All other things are only aids and helpers." (Spiritual Seekers Guide)

"So long as you do not experience the withdrawal of spirit within you, religion is a myth for you. To attain this experience, you have to perform the spiritual practices with full zest and fervour every day as prescribed by a Living Master." (Spiritual Seekers Guide)

"Without doing the practices of Sumiran [Simran, the Remembrance of God by the repetition of His Name or Names] and Dhyan [meditation upon the form of a Sant Satguru], the hold of Karmas past and present on the mind will not be loosened and therefore the mind will always be wavering with thoughts. The more one does the meditation practices, the more is the realization of the ephemerality of this life. In other words, the sense of Vairaga [detachment] gets consolidated. Only with the foundation of Vairaga will the seedlings of true Bhakti [love and devotion] germinate." (Spiritual Seekers Guide)

Waste of Life

Understand, O people,

understand when I proclaim loudly:

no one will remain here forever --

all will have to depart in the end.

Caught up in attachment for your family,

you ignored the worship of the Lord

and thus wasted your opportunity.

You spent the day working and the night in sleep --

this is how you have passed your years.

Every minute of the day you have wasted in vain.

Not even for a moment

did you repeat the Lord's Name.

How then will you find bliss?

As a child you remained lost in play.

In youth you were intoxicated with yourself.

In old age you were beset with worry,

and sorrows robbed you of all joy.

Why are you lost?

Be vigilant, O foolish one!

Kaal (Satan) is standing over you with his arrow aimed at you.

He will draw his bow, shoot poisonous arrows

and tie you up before you know it.

Give up your attachment to this false world

and repeat the true Name.

Says Charandas: Sukdev (Master) cautions you to

reflect on your own welfare!

-- Saint Charandas (1703-1782)

"To be aware of one’s own faults and sincerely pray for their correction is a sign of Grace of the Supreme Being and this is the only method by which heart is purified. Give more and more place to it in your life. Do *Sumiran and **Dhyan as much as possible. The more you do the *Repetition of the Name (Simran) and

**Contemplation of the Form (Dhyan), the more will be your progress. Spirituality needs sincerity. Without it, truth will not be revealed and success is not achieved." (Spiritual Seekers Guide)

A Great Hidden Treasure of Spirituality is Within Every Human Being

"A great treasure is hidden in every human being. If a person does not have the key to open it, he will remain poor only. His future is full of sorrow and misery. That is why it is very necessary for man to know the technique of opening that treasure and utilize it properly after getting the key. When a child grows up his father and mother send him into the world to learn and enhance his knowledge. After that he does not ask them for every trivial matter. Circumstances teach him every lesson and he progresses gradually. After a certain age, man needs spiritual awakening. He has to learn from the treasure of knowledge. If he does not, his material knowledge remains imperfect. To enrich several aspects of life he has to open the treasure of knowledge. This will be opened with the repetition of Radhasoami Name* in the prescribed way. The treasure contains wisdom which brings in happiness, peace, fearlessness, and bliss which are very helpful. Everyone is lacking in happiness, peace, fearlessness and bliss. Food and shelter are also essential but in the absence of the above, life is incomplete. Radhasoami Name* [simran] is the key to that treasure. You have to utilize it fully to get full benefit. Give proper place to spirituality in your life. It is the greatest decoration. Try to achieve happiness, peace and knowledge of Supreme Being in this precious life. If spirituality is practiced, even dull intellect becomes active. Every person should strive to uphold the practical aspect of Radhasoami religion. If you are not doing spiritual sadhana [meditation practice] with peace and tranquility do not give up. Try to do more and more. Install the Form of the Supreme Being in your heart. Otherwise you will be far away from that treasure. Life will be full of sorrows and miseries. Being a Satsangi is not sufficient to be relieved from the clutches of Kal. You must engage in spiritual pursuit all the 24 hours, otherwise there is danger of your downfall. Many people are under the sway of Kal [the negative power] due to their negligence. After the departure of Saints, they became selfish and forgot spirituality. Those who sacrifice their selfish interests at the altar of spirituality are the real seekers of Truth. Give prime place to spirituality in your life. Everybody should be aware and strive for higher life."

* Simran – The Power of Repeating God’s Name

Repeating a Name (or Names) of God with love and devotion, called in the east "Simran", "Manas Jap", or "Zikhr," is one of the key spiritual exercises used to cultivate love for God and to invoke the Positive Power in our daily lives, making it possible to live a life of love. Simran is a mental repetition of a Name of God done during meditation, and this spiritual practice is also done during available moments throughout the day and night as a way to remember God all the time. Says Sant Tukarama:

"Such is God’s Name

that it heals the disease of the world.

Whosoever repeats the Lord’s Name

while engaged in earthly duties,

remains ever in a blissful state of divine communion.

One absorbed in the Lord’s Name, O Tuka,

has truly attained liberation while living."

This spiritual exercise of repeating God’s Name helps to uplift our day, to bring some of the heaven and bliss of meditation into our down-to-earth daily experience, and is a way to remember in a world of forgetfulness, to remain awake in a world of spiritual slumber, to abide in Truth, no longer dominated by the forces of illusion. Be who you really are wherever you go.

Photo of the newly renovated Moradabad ashram, the Baba Devi Sahab Sant Mat Ashram. The whole project is a good metaphor for Swami Vyasanand's mission, to renew Sant Mat for another generation.

After a lot of wandering search, I found my Guru at Moradabad.

He spread the light, infinitely resplendent light of wisdom from the ward of Atai.

The grief-stricken people mired in dark dungeons of ignorance,

began to smile with hope, finding a heartening saviour in him.

Baba Devi Sahab, the Complete Master of inner secrets, is a renowned name all over the world. |

Upon those who show even slight love to him, Baba showers infinite compassion,

Mehi, the humble servant, gratefully sings his glory.

-- Verse No. 101 of Maharshi Mehi from the Maharshi Mehi Padavali

"...The greatest and most unique contribution of Maharshi Mehi was that he brought together, bridged the gulf that had come to separate not only the Holy Scriptures [of Hinduism] and the Santmat but also the different traditions or sects of Sants from each other."  (Pravesh K. Singh, Article: Maharshi Mehi -- The Bridge Between Hindu Scriptures and Sant Mat)

"Baba Devi Sahab became a great Sant after Sant Tulsi Sahab. Sant Tulsi Sahab had predicted the incarnation of Baba Devi Sahab as a born yogi. Munshi Maheshwari Lal had utmost devotion for Sant Tulsi Sahab. So, due to that love Tulsi Sahab used to visit his home. Maheshwari Lal had no son and so he used to remain sad. Being pleased by his selfless service and love, Sant Tulsi Sahab once blessed Munshi Maheshwari Lal, saying that soon he would have a great sant-soul as his son who would change millions of lives by his spiritual power. Sants' sayings never are false. Thus Munshi Maheshwari became father of a boy that very year, March 1841... Baba Devi Sahab started the propagation of Sant Mat widely from the year of 1887, visited many places in India and neighboring countries and spread the knowledge of Sant Mat. He delivered many discourses on different subjects such as Salvation, Devotion, the Universe, God, and Meditation." (SadGuruMehi website)

Baba Devi Sahab used to travel widely to awaken the masses by propagating the precepts of Sant Mat. In this process, he had also traveled and delivered his discourses in a number of cities located in what is now Pakistan, such as Multan, Quetta, Karachi, etc...

Baba Devi Sahab was in possession of a hand-written manuscript of Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras printed at Hathras itself in the year of 1896, and had it published, sharing the teachings of the great Saint of Hathras with spiritual seekers everywhere: "The book Ghat Ramayan is said to be the work of Tulsi Saheb of Hathras. The first edition of this book was published by one Munshi Devi Prasad Saheb alias Devi Sahib. Subsequently, an edition was brought out in the year 1911 from Belvedere Press….." ("The Esoteric Meaning of the Ramayan", by S.D. Maheshwari, Agra)

"This spiritual path and its destination is divine love... The remover of difficulties is the one spiritual teacher who has given you the secret knowledge (spiritual guidance and experience)." -- Baba Devi Sahab

"We should understand that bhakti [love] is the life or soul of the entire universe." (Baba Devi Sahab)

"The pathway to the liberation of the 'jiva' (individual soul) already exists within each one of us." (Baba Devi Sahab)

-- Essential Teachings of Baba Devi Sahab of Moradabad

NOTE: Baba Devi Sahab and Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram of the Radhasoami Faith were close friends. Baba Devi even spent some time in Agra as Huzur's honored guest. They both had much reverence for Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras.

"Merciful Radhasoami was also pleased to declare that whenever anybody is initiated into the Surat Shabd Marga, his contact is immediately established with Sat Purusha Radhasoami. Hence, Sat Purusha Merciful Radhasoami would continue to shower his grace on everyone who would sincerely perform the practices to some extent with feelings of love and would not indulge in the evil tendencies of his mind as far as possible, i.e. He would gradually make the mind and the spirit of such a devotee ascend higher and higher internally and would protect him from the obstacles put by Maya and Kal." (Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram, Radhasoami Mat Updesh)

The True Seeker and True Lover of God (Sat Purush Radhasoami): "One can successfully perform the activities pertaining to true paramartha* [spirituality] only when true yearning and love for meeting the Supreme Lord has been in gendered in the heart." -- Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram, Radhasoami Mat Updesh

* Note: Paramartha: The word 'paramartha' is a compound of two words 'param', i.e. highest, and 'artha', i.e. object or purpose of life. Spiritual development and the realization of one's 'Self' or 'Atman' and of the Supreme Being are considered to be the highest objects of man's life. Religion helps in the achievement of these goals or this 'paramartha' and as such, religion or spiritual activity has generally been identified with 'paramartha'.

“The practices which have been taught for purifying the spirit and making it ascend upwards should be performed regularly and with feelings of love.” (Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram, Prem Updesh Radhasoami)

"The Supreme Being is a boundless ocean of spirit, or love, and the human being a drop or current of spirit or love from this ocean; and love being the very essence and means of existence of the whole creation, it follows that no effort in any direction, temporal or spiritual, unless actuated by love or affectionate regard, can be crowned with success, and the work or labor rendered easy, sweet and harmonious." (Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram)

Transcending Illusion, Making This Life Peaceful and Fruitful

"The Satguru's Shabd or NAAM [inner Sound meditation] should be practiced properly and punctually. Then the reverberations, which are heard distinctly within, protect the devotees from all the miseries of Maya [illusion]. Thus neither Kal [lord of time and death] or Maya can overpower him, nor the mind can subdue him. It should always be borne in mind that the Satguru's Shabd is the Supreme protector. Apart from this, there is no other power in this world, which can free man from the forces of Maya. Therefore, without wasting such precious time, one should always concentrate upon the Shabd [the Sound Current in meditation practice], the divine utterances and instructions of the Satguru, and derive full benefit from this golden opportunity to make this life peaceful and fruitful." (Shri Swami Vairag Anand Ji Maharaj, Saar Updesh)

In one hymn Mirabai said: "Maine leno amolak mol", meaning: "I have bought the invaluable God." When she was asked, with what did you buy him? Mira says: "Wah aawat prem ke mol mai ri". That means: "He can be bought only with love." Love can be defined as that which diminishes the gap between the lover and the Beloved. When no obstruction remains between the devotee and God, only then true union takes place. (Swami Vyasanand)

"Just as the water of the river find peace in union with the ocean, in the same manner when the soul unites with God, duality disappears, and the soul becomes tranquil. The river is no longer a river -- it becomes the ocean. When the soul (atman) is united with the One or God it is no longer an individual soul (Jivatma), but it is the Supreme Soul (Paramatma). This is the highest state of achievement and bliss: the state of complete unity of the Soul and God."  (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj, Book of Sarvadharma Samanvy/Harmony Of All Religions)

"In this world, very few tread the path taught by the Satguru. Such persons lose egotism. They do not make any distinction between the rich and poor. They always discard ill-thoughts from their mind. No difference is made by them amongst people of different colour, race, caste, creed, etc… They wander in this world like a lotus which does not get wet by the water though it grows in water. (Dariya exhorts to clean the dirt of the mirror-mind to get the image of the Lord)." (Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar)

"When we receive initiation from a Saint, practice Naam simran to retrace our consciousness from toes to a spot behind the eyes [Third Eye Center], only then something is accomplished." (Baba Kehar Singh)

"Once you have met a True Human Being,

Let him not disappear from the horizon of your Heart."  -- Rumi

Pale Blue Dot

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there -- on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

"The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

"Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

"The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

"It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

-- Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994
