Swainson's Hawks Continue in Borrego Springs

Today, 142 hawks migrated. This evening at least 150 and possibly as high as 400 descended into the Date Farm. The rain and wind made it difficult to count. Tomorrow the wind and rain should diminish by 5am. Recently the hawks have dropped from the Eucalyptus Trees to the desert floor north of the Date Farm. With light wind the hawks will probably kettle up between 8:30 and 9:30am. Of course with wind they will leave earlier. The Date Farm is located 1.5 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive on Borrego Valley Road. Other viewing areas include DiGiorgio Rd. 1.5 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive and the official count site on DiGiorgio Rd 2.8 miles north of Palm Canyon Rd.
