Early this morning, 21 June, there was 1 Pink-footed, 20 Sooty, and 300+ Black-vented Shearwaters off La Jolla, but 0 alcids. Also 2 (continuing) adult Reddish Egrets together at Emory Cove on South San Diego Bay.

Given that the very first of the returning, southbound shorebirds are now appearing, here are my numbers of what were all presumed over-summering, non-breeding shorebirds on San Diego Bay during this month. Seems as though numbers and variety were below average this year.

40 Black-bellied Plover (1 full alternate)

5 Whimbrel

6 Long-billed Curlew

180 Marbled Godwit

3 Ruddy Turnstone

25 Red Knot

11 Western Sandpiper

58 Short-billed Dowitcher

8 Greater Yellowlegs
