Today I found 5 Red Crossbills at Fletcher island, which is part of Lake Cuyamaca. Recently there were also found at the Stonewall Mine area by someone else. So they are either covering a lot of area or there is more than one flock. Approximate location coordinates are , 32.986409, -116.578846. A Red-shouldered Hawk flushed all the birds and it had a small bird in its talon. Not sure if it was one of the Crossbills because there were also White-breasted Nuthatches and Mountain Chickadees in the same tree. The Crossbills were also vocalizing.
