Nelson’s Sparrow - Kendall Frost

Nancy Christensen

At about 10:10 this morning I saw a Nelson’s Sparrow foraging in the pickle weed from about this location (32.7929344, -117.2313054). High tide was a 6.9 peaking at 10:20. It’s a bit unusual that I saw the bird before the peak, I usually plan to be there about a half hour after the peak, when the sparrows are more likely to come out on the chain link fence.

This is the usual spot we see Nelson’s sparrows at very high tide, along Crown Point Drive on Mission Bay. The next set of really high tides will begin Nov 23.
