Miscellany from the SDBF

No megas, but wanted to pass on some info on birds of local interest from the past few days leading tours for the bird festival.

El Monte County Park is chock full of LAWRENCE’S GOLDFINCHES, I would estimate around a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of Lawrence’s to Lesser there.

Although recently reported on ebird by others, worth noting that Lindo Lake now has TWO resident GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. There’s a healthy flock of 40-50 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS wintering there, typically hanging out by the parking lot in the NW corner. The GRAY FLYCATCHER also continues on the east end. We did not see any Sapsuckers across two days of tours which stopped there.

The COMMON GOLDENEYE count at Lake Murray has increased, this morning we had three females together just off Cowles Point.

On RANGELAND ROAD in Ramona we had a PRAIRIE FALCON and two FERRUGINOUS HAWKS. The BALD EAGLE pair is nesting with one adult viewed on the nest and the other nearby. A bright male VERMILION FLYCATCHER was hawking from the line of trees W of the road just past the crest before the big pond comes into view. No Mountain Bluebirds this year.
