Today, Sep 22, a Tropical Kingbird was along Coronado Avenue bordering NASNI, where one has wintered several years in a row. Time will tell if it is that bird back again or a through-migrant. Ditto the adult male American Redstart at Glorietta Bay Park, which continues today as well. Down at the TRV Community Gardens, there was a Green-tailed Towhee, Lawrence's Goldfinch, and 2 continuing Black-chinned Hummingbirds. A feeder in Tierrasanta has 6 continuing Black-chinneds as of today, and 5 Black-chins continued at Pine Valley feeders as of two days ago, including one adult male. Years ago, this number of Black-chinneds in late Sep would have been somewhat unusual, but over the past few years small numbers have remained at feeders as late as early Oct. Two Common Terns continue at the Salt Works.

So far this month, there seems to be little evidence of any irruptive species on the move, with a couple minor exceptions being just a few wayward White-breasted Nuthatches and the somewhat early appearance of small flocks of Cedar Waxwings.
