The returning Tierrasanta Painted Redstart continues as of today (23 Jan), no surprise, but be aware that it is moving around quite a bit as of late and can be easily missed. Sometimes near the entrance to the substation on Tierrasanta Blvd., sometimes around the block on Catamarca Drive, and sometimes MIA. New birds the past few days include yet another Nashville Warbler (my 4th in ten days) on the 20th, but at least this bird was not in tipus but was in blooming eucs at the corner of Cypress X Albert, just northeast of Balboa Park. On the 22nd a long-staying, wandering White-breasted Nuthatch and 3 Western Tanagers continued along the western edge of Balboa Park. Single Red-breasted Sapsuckers in Colina del Sol Park and along Monument Road in the TRV. A Cinnamon Teal at the mouth of San Diego Bay with Surf Scoters on 21 Jan was almost certainly a "spring" migrant--a typical arrival date for through-migrants. Some spring migrant swallows are showing up.
