Monday at La Jolla, numbers offshore were decidedly mediocre early on but then picked way up with the passage of the final moderate-rain-band and subsequent substantial increase in a west wind after 10AM. The morning's total included a fine mid-winter southbound flight of 1600+ Pacific Loons, many in rather large flocks, and a total of 200+ southbound Red Phalaropes. After I had to leave, Matt Sadowski et al. added a Short-tailed Shearwater and a dusky-rumped Leach's-type Storm-Petrel, which very soon got picked off by a Peregrine Falcon....
