continuing white-winged scoter sweetwater river 3-9-21

Robert Patton

The female white-winged scoter continues today in the Sweetwater channel seen both at 8:45 am & 1:30 pm between the boom across the channel SE of the marina entrance channel & the bridge about 200 yds to the east.  In the marsh channels just SSE of Pepper Park boat launch both lesser & greater scaup males were together for nice comparison.  Farther west along the channel was reddish egret (no tricolored seen today).  Over 150 royal terns were roosting & courting on the shore where the channel opens onto the bay.  On arrival, elegant terns were also heard among the royals in flight but we were unable to get on them for a count before they departed (Lea Squires reported up to 200 elegants & 300 royals earlier at South SD Bay Saltworks).
