On Sunday afternoon, January 2, 2022, the Lesser Black-backed Gull continued near the rocks in front of the Hotel del Coronado, which were completely exposed at low tide.  A female-type Red-breasted Merganser and female-type Common Merganser were feeding side-by-side in the eel grass at Glorietta Bay Park.  The thicker bill, head color (rusty-red versus golden-brown), and well-defined white chin and throat of the Common were clearly distinct from the Red-breasted.
