Also today, Friday, there was a Plumbeous Vireo in Berry Street Park which is along Mount Vernon Street just off Massachusetts Avenue in Lemon Grove. And in Balboa Park there's a Tennessee Warbler in the huge fig tree at the corner of El Prado and 6th at the very west edge of the park, and in the scattered tipu trees immediately south of that on the lawn there's a fair number of warblers including a Nashville and a wayward White-breasted Nuthatch, which might be a returning bird from last winter. Lerpy eucalyptus with a fair number of birds are at the southeast corner of the lawn bowling and also to the south of the Organ Pavilion.

On Thursday the 13th, there was a good count of 46 White-faced Ibis spending the night at Dairy Mart, a nearby White fronted goose flew over, and there was a Palm Warbler along Saturn Avenue just north of the river crossing. In Coronado, an adult male American redstart on private property might be a returning bird from last winter, to go along with the returning male at Glorietta Bay Park as well. A flock of 18 Greater white-fronted geese is at Sunset Park in Coronado, and the Tropical Kingbird continues along Coronado Avenue and appears to also likely be a returning wintering bird. I've also heard that up at Villa La Jolla Park that the male Black-throated blue warbler and the Gray flycatcher and the Tennessee warbler all continue today.

The surge in Greater White-fronted geese up and down the entire coast of Southern California for the past four or five days seems unprecedented, at least in recent years. And here in San Diego County there have been multiple flocks every day for the past several days including I hear just today also in the San Diego River mouth area and up at Lake O'Neill and near Bataquitos. Obviously there can be some duplication in all these reports, but there's certainly lots of them around!!!
