This morning, the 7th, there was a somewhat brief Dickcissel in the TRV Community Gardens, but my fine attempt to pish it into fuller view resulted in it taking wing and disappearing as a speck far to the northwest. Also seen this AM elsewhere were 2 White-winged Doves, a Swainson's Thrush, and a Green-tailed Towhee. Back on the 4th, a HIGH-flying, eastbound flock of 5 Phainopeplas over the TRV were conducting some sort of long-range movement from somewhere to somewhere else.
I will do another post later today concerning Hurricane/Tropical Storm KAY and its birding potential and potential impacts to Sunday's pelagic trip.
By my calculation, in the county since the beginning of this month, there have been 23 Baird's Sandpipers (high concentration of 9 in interior Salt Works, per Matt), 9 Pectoral Sandpipers (still early in the season for this species), and 14 Solitary Sandpipers. Also 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper, which is the typical departure date for that species.
