Canada warbler still visible as of 120 at the lighthouse at Cabrillo national Monument.
This bird is down low in the bushes and we have literally seen it for the last hour so anybody that didn’t get the Lake Murray bird this is a good chance to get it. It has been hanging around basically on the west side of the lighthouse sometimes moving to the far south west corner. This bird hasn’t gone in an actual tree once so easy to see at a level or below.

Point Loma update Saturday morning
lehman.paul@verizon.net
As noted by Dean, an immature Broad-winged hawk was working the southeast section of the cemetery and adjoining Navy property this morning and was present off and on for almost an hour perched in various trees, power lines, pole tops, or trying to escape the wrath of the crows. Given that it was hanging around and behaving much like the bird that was in the same area several days ago, there's a good chance it's in fact the same bird that's hanging around, so anybody who still hasn't seen one, a good plan would be park yourself along the edge of Catalina boulevard just a little south of the committal shelter where you have a good view of as many trees and power lines and pole tops as you can and just hope it shows up.
Also at the cemetery earlier in the morning was continuing summer tanager and 24 white-fronted geese in the Northeast corner, but the Least flycatcher is missing and has been replaced in the same exact spot by a Pacific-slope. Along Dupont in residential Point Loma, the Blackburnian and Chestnut sided and Black and white all continue this morning. And no surprise, the Hammonds flycatcher continues at Liberty station, a returning wintering bird back for its third year. Paul Lehman, San Diego |

Also today, Friday, there was a Plumbeous Vireo in Berry Street Park which is along Mount Vernon Street just off Massachusetts Avenue in Lemon Grove. And in Balboa Park there's a Tennessee Warbler in the huge fig tree at the corner of El Prado and 6th at the very west edge of the park, and in the scattered tipu trees immediately south of that on the lawn there's a fair number of warblers including a Nashville and a wayward White-breasted Nuthatch, which might be a returning bird from last winter. Lerpy eucalyptus with a fair number of birds are at the southeast corner of the lawn bowling and also to the south of the Organ Pavilion.

Black-throated Blue Warbler - Solana Highlands Elementary parking lot
David Trissel
A male Black-throated Blue Warbler was in the southeastern-most tipu just before 8:00 today. Although still accessible during school hours (stay on sidewalk towards staff parking lot), it was searched for again very briefly at 9:00 and 10:00 to no avail. GPS: 32.954533,-117.238962

Black-throated Blue Warbler at Morley Field

This morning I had a male BTBW along the south edge of the disc golf course at 32.73609, -117.13686. While this area can be observed from the walking path outside the disc golf course, it is very close to the basket for hole 15 and one should maintain awareness and watch out for flying discs (and of course stay off the course itself).

Sweetwater Reservoir, and more on the White-fronted goose glut
lehman.paul@verizon.net
Following yet more and more flocks of Greater White-fronted geese all over the place, there is currently an exact count of 140 at the upper end of Sweetwater Reservoir, Friday, perhaps a new high count. Also 12 Cackling geese with them, which are slightly early but there already has been a couple sightings in the last couple days elsewhere in the county, not counting the tame bird at Lake Murray that is!! A couple people in the know have floated the theory that this unprecedented coastal invasion of white-fronts and associated cacklings may be associated with either less rice planting in the Central Valley currently due to water shortages and/or one or two major stopover sites on their migration route being dry.
Also at Sweetwater this morning there are at least 50 Blue-winged teal, which isn't all that surprising for October, as well as adult bald eagle and three Wilsons snipe and lots of barn swallows with one late Northern rough-winged. Paul Lehman, San Diego |

Re: Huge flock white fronted goose at elijo
17 Greater White-fronted Geese at Lake Hodges. Flock of 9 flew over at 10 a.m. A group of 8 roosting on lake shore along Del Dios Bay before where the Handicapped Dock was. They were there when I arrived at 10 a.m. and remained when I left at 11: a.m.

Miscellanea
lehman.paul@verizon.net
On Thursday the 13th, there was a good count of 46 White-faced Ibis spending the night at Dairy Mart, a nearby White fronted goose flew over, and there was a Palm Warbler along Saturn Avenue just north of the river crossing. In Coronado, an adult male American redstart on private property might be a returning bird from last winter, to go along with the returning male at Glorietta Bay Park as well. A flock of 18 Greater white-fronted geese is at Sunset Park in Coronado, and the Tropical Kingbird continues along Coronado Avenue and appears to also likely be a returning wintering bird. I've also heard that up at Villa La Jolla Park that the male Black-throated blue warbler and the Gray flycatcher and the Tennessee warbler all continue today.
The surge in Greater White-fronted geese up and down the entire coast of Southern California for the past four or five days seems unprecedented, at least in recent years. And here in San Diego County there have been multiple flocks every day for the past several days including I hear just today also in the San Diego River mouth area and up at Lake O'Neill and near Bataquitos. Obviously there can be some duplication in all these reports, but there's certainly lots of them around!!! Paul Lehman, San Diego |
