Waterthrush, GTTO

Christopher Adler

This morning at the stick pond at Dairy Mart Ponds, the Northern Waterthrush
made an appearance very close to the shore. I called Ed Henry over
to see it, and while we were looking, it spent more time in the bushes
above our heads than down in the mud! Pix in the ebird report. While present,
the waterthrush was calling constantly.

Also present in the stick pond was a Sora and a brownish empid with rufousy
wing bars and a short primary extension that dropped in just for a second.
Fortunately I chose to shoot photos rather than study it first since it flew
off and did not return. I reported it as a Willow Flycatcher but re-evaluation
of the pix in the ebird report is welcome.

The Green-tailed Towhee ranged from the bushes at the edge of the stick pond
to about 100m west along the paved path....farther than I would have guessed,
but I watched it fly from one spot to the other so it's the same bird.

Afterwards at the Bird & Butterfly Garden, before the ground-dove-seeking crowds
appeared, there were a few migrants: Western Tanager, Warbling Vireo, White-crowned
Sparrow, YRWA, Pacific-slope Flycatcher.
