Nashville Warbler: Carlsbad 21Jan 2018

Tito Gonzalez

I observed a NASHVILLE WARBLER this morning (21Jan 2018) in Carlsbad near the intersection of Faraday and Rutherford. It was foraging in Tipu or Tipu-like trees on the north side of Faraday about 50 yards east of Rutherford. It moved between the 3rd and 4th Tipu trees counting from intersection. While perhaps of marginal chase interest,  this species is rare in winter and more so in North County, according to Bird Atlas and E-bird. Despite this historical trend, there have been several sightings this winter between Encinitas and Carlsbad. A couple of photos are in the following ebird checklist.
