Downy Woodpecker at San Elijo Visitor Centet

While walking Bear the Dog early this afternoon on the nature trail at the San Elijo Visitors Center, I spotted a white-backed small woodpecker, a Downy. A transient most likely. He was in an area off the center boardwalk portion of the nature trail, working small trees. There is a hatch of small caterpillars underway, which has brought out the gleaners, even on a hot afternoon. The Downy appeared to be gleaning also.
The high tide drove two RidgewayRails into view, one swimming the tidal channel.
