Grasshopper Sparrow, Town Center Park in Santee
Jeremiah Stock
I birded parts of Town Center Community Park in Santee late morning Wednesday October 16, 2019. Most interesting bird was a Grasshopper Sparrow that popped up on a fence bordering a swale filled with cattails. Exact location is in the southwestern most part of the park and the cattail swale is west of River Park Drive, about 0.2 miles from the entrance off of Cuyamaca Street.
Small sparrow with short tail. Relatively flat head, dark on crown with pale median crown-stripe. Large pinkish bill that was darker on top. Complete white eye ring. Upperparts patterned in rufous and gray. Buffy across parts of face, throat and breast with no streaking on breast. Belly whitish. Silent. Jeremiah Stock Santee, CA jscls@... |
