Re: Texas QSO Party #Contest

Dear Club Members,

If you are feeling a little adventurous and can spare the time for the Texas QSO Party here is a list of counties that were inactive during the 2018 running of the contest. Those with an asterisk (*) were also inactive during the 2017 contest. It would be great to see our club members put a dent in a few of these if possible. A better format of this data along with a map can be found on page 25 of this report: http://www.txqp.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&view=wrapper&Itemid=174 You should also be able to view the map here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1m2-nW-xKxpFCVC44OWNoIlL3pweczAyP&ll=30.917099727399396%2C-100.08102650000001&z=6

Inactive Counties - 2018 Aransas* Fannin Lipscomb Refugio* Austin Floyd Llano Roberts Castro Gray Mason Runnels Chambers* Grimes Matagorda* Sherman Coleman Grayson Maverick* San Patricio* Colorado Hale McCulloch San Saba Concho Hansford Menard Val Verde* Cooke Hartley Moore Ward Cottle Hemphill Motley Webb* Crane Hood* Ochiltree Wheeler Dallam Hutchinson Oldham Winkler Dimmit Jasper Orange* Zavala Deaf Smith Johnson* Parmer Erath* Kendall Reeves* *

For those of you just north of town in Kendall county (KD3VK I'm looking at you!) please spend a bit of time playing radio or encourage others in the KARS club to do so.

I had a short email chat with Chuck Sanders NO5W and he said that 2017 and 2018 were two of their poorest years as far as number of counties on the air. If you happen to know hams that live near these "dead spots" please let them know about the contest. Even if they get on for an hour or two that would be an improvement!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Marty, I don’t know why you’re picking on me? I live in Comal County! HiHi

Unfortunately I won’t be where I can use a radio during the Texas QSO party weekend but I’m going to forward this to the the KARS club members because several live in Kendall County and hopefully some will get on the air that weekend.

Although family emergencies kept me from doing it last year, this year I'll be running mobile in the same counties I did in 2017.... south of Bexar County. Bob W2IK

I ran about 12 of them in 2017, using a special antenna that was 30 feet tall on my rear bumper, but I had to stop at each location instead of driving as I operated. I will be mainly on 40 and 20 meters,  Bob  W2IK

Raytheon - FlexRadio Team to Develop Airborne High Frequency Radio
Air Force awards industry team $36 million contract
Dear FlexRadio Customers,

In a strategic partnership with Raytheon, FlexRadio has been selected by the US Air Force (USAF) to adapt its commercial off the shelf SmartSDR/FLEX-6000 architecture for HF modernization of airborne communications platforms. The joint press release with Raytheon can be found here.

We are excited to convey that our proven modular direct sampling hardware, Open Waveform API, and IP based architecture provide a ready platform for agile development to meet 21st century communication needs.

There is an old saying, "What goes around comes around." Throughout FlexRadio's history, commercial amateur products have been leveraged into defense products, which in turn, have been leveraged back into commercial products. We are certain that these efforts will cycle back again.

So how might this development affect you? While I can't go into all the details, the positive impact to our business processes, infrastructure, intellectual property and human resources will enhance our amateur/commercial products and services. So stay tuned for more amateur product announcements coming soon.

Thank you all for your support of FlexRadio. We appreciate your business and we invite you to celebrate with us on achieving this significant milestone.

73,

Gerald

For sale: Steppir and Acom

Keith Heimbold

Hi All-

Been busy as usual changing things up in the shack. I decided to change up again.

I have a couple items for sale. One is steppir urban beam that I just bought from steppir in May and am half way through assembly and decided that I am wanting an antenna without moving parts after all. I am discounting $500 it from what I paid a few months ago.

The other is a project amp, Acom 1000. It requires a new transformer from Acom. I got all the info on how to get a new one but decided to move on from that project and pass it onto someone with more spare time or interest in a rebuild.

Contact me at ak6zzel09@... For prices and more info like photos. I am in Helotes if you want to see the items in person. Not traveling this week.

Apologies for not making many events been traveling a lot for work and business since May 2018. Hope you are all well!

Thanks & 73,

Keith

Description: The JS8 QSO Party is a chance to get on the air with JS8 and make some contacts every month. Whether you like a quick exchange or a long rag-chew, this event is for you. We have a lot of great, patient operators in the group, so the environment should be very welcoming!

The party is an all-day event held monthly on the Second Saturday of the month (unless the schedule is modified for a particular event). Each month will have a theme or goal.

Monthly Theme: TBD
When:
19:00 UTC to 19:00 UTC
Participation: Global
Bands: All Amateur Bands

Remember, by default JS8 QSO Party events are not contests, so all amateur bands are open for use. Now might be the time to break out your 30m delta loop or 17m hamstick or 12m bed springs!

Sticking to the theme is nice, but remember that with JS8 we have the freedom of free-text. So, feel free to QSY toward a clear frequency and talk about anything you want.

I hope to see some of y'all on the air. Let me know if I can help in the meantime!

Cheers!

Best,
Jordan / KN4CRD_._,_._,_
