HJ's Cafe news!

Susan Kemppainen

HJ’s Cafe has lots to share with our friends! Attached are flyers with more detailed information, so here’s a brief rundown:

1)      Our “First Sunday of the Month” all-you-can-eat kosher brunch is this Sunday, 3/1 from 10 am to 2 pm! Every brunch will feature a different, delicious menu! The March specialty dishes are pan-seared salmon with wild rice and a quinoa salad with roasted veggies!

2)     We updated our kosher dinner–to-go packages with more choices and lowered the minimum number to order!

3)     Aging Ahead is introducing breakfast and lunch meals, in addition to their regular dinner meals! For a suggested donation of $4, Aging Ahead members can pick any *one* meal a day. For breakfast and lunch, you can order your meal and eat at HJ's Cafe, during its regular service hours, with no reservations necessary. Or with a reservation, you can still dine at a 5 pm Aging Ahead dinner at the Mirowitz Center. Aging Ahead is for people ages 60 and above; there is no income requirement. For further information or to enroll in Aging Ahead, stop by the Mirowitz Center, call 314-292-7693 or contact Jen Schmitz (JSchmitz@...).

Have a wonderful weekend and see you Sunday for brunch!

I just spoke to the person at Costco and he said they will be carrying the chickens in the frozen section in the same aisle as the chicken nuggets. It will still be the same quantities they have purchased in the past for Passover.

Re: Fresh kosher chickens at Costco on Manchester

Gloria Roberts

I also spoke with someone at Costco.  They said they had too much unbought items before expiration dates  that caused them to lose money on providing the fresh products.

Passing this along:
St Louis peeps, someone spoke this morning with Regional Mgr Dick Schneider - 630-581-6262. He was very courteous and respectful but confirmed the news that in our area we're no longer getting fresh Empire poultry. I explained how the kosher situation has gone from good to bad to worse (loss of Solomon's ground beef a few years ago; Solomon's fresh meat replaced with substandard frozen Teva; and now loss of fresh Empire poultry a month before Pesach). He explained the business decisions involved, but was happy to take comments/suggestions. He indicated that they may replace a couple of the fresh Empire products with frozen, which in my mind is better than no Empire. I also asked if it's possible to get frozen Solomon's to replace the Teva. Please call him and add your voice and suggestions to see if they will provide something better than frozen Teva. TIA.

Car Lease

Car Lease
Hey STL! Chodesh Tov! I am in Israel studying in seminary, and may have an opportunity to stay for another year. However, I will have one last year of a car lease to get rid of, and would love your help in taking it over.

2018 Nissan Sentra, leased through Bommarito Nissan. Includes oil changes, excellent gas mileage, and insurance for small accidents (i.e. popped tire). Great for parents with short commutes, or a car for someone here just for a year.

Currently $266/month plus insurance, but am willing to negotiate the price. Car lease runs through August 2021, and am looking for someone to do a total sublease from August 2020-2021.

Would be a HUGE help if someone can take this over!

First Sunday of the Month Kosher Brunch

Susan Kemppainen

Hi! Many of you have been reading my messages on this server and visiting HJ's Cafe! In fact, when I told two ladies last week I was the one sending these emails, they said, "So you're Susan Kempa-something!" Yup, that's me, and I can't pronounce my last name either. Blame my husband.

Our new kosher menu is a hit! Please like and follow the HJ's Cafe Facebook page to see photos of the daily specials! The kosher and non-kosher items are posted separately on the page to avoid any confusion. Kosher Sunday brunch has been so popular, we're now hosting a regular brunch the first Sunday of every month, plus some special dates! Every brunch will have different food choices to keep our brunches fresh and interesting. The first Sunday of March is this Sunday, March 1, so join us from 10 am to 2 pm with your family and friends for a brunch featuring pan-seared salmon with wild rice and quinoa salad with roasted vegetables! Usual brunch favorites will be there too... eggs, roasted potatoes, waffles, bagels/lox spread, and more! See you Sunday!
