Susan Kemppainen

The Mirowitz Center February programs are up and running, but there are a few the first week of March deserving of extra attention. After all, it’s never too early to register and mark your calendars, when exciting opportunities await! You can register for programs online, call me at the number below, or reply to this email. Thanks for your interest!

The Lost Shtetl - Author Max Gross; 3/2/2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM (Tuesday)

Author Max Gross presents his first novel work of fiction, The Lost Shtetl. Brimming with human emotion, history and provocative questions, the story is light at times with an amusing tone about a shtetl (small community in which Jews lived in Poland) which somehow was miraculously overlooked by the invading Nazis in their quest to murder the Jewish population, during World War II. This program is provided in conjunction with FEL (Friends Enjoying Life), an organization supported by the Mirowitz Center.

Journey through Jewish History in Ancient Egypt - Tour New York's Metropolitan Art Museum's World Renowned Collection; 3/3/2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM (Wednesday)

Special opportunity! Former St. Louisan, Elana Kaplan, Museum Educator and Lecturer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, provides a virtual tour of some of the extraordinary artistic, historical and cultural artifacts in the Ancient Egyptian Art Collection at the New York MET. The Passover story of the exit from Egypt is brought to life through the collection and presentation!

Facing Adversity, Fostering Strength and Living Your Best Life - Dr. Leslie M. Gutman; 3/4/2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM (Thursday)

Dr. Leslie M. Gutman is Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology and Director of the MSc Behaviour Change at University College London, England. Her book, Resilience: A Jewish Guide to Facing Setbacks, Fostering Strength, and Living Your Best Life (published by Mosaica Press), focuses on the major life tests that many of us face and the different strengths we can cultivate to boost resilience with dozens of practical resilience-building exercises. As we enter the second year of the COVID pandemic, can’t we all do with a little help to continue to build up resilience? This program is provided in conjunction with Aish Hatorah of St. Louis.

Opening Eyes and Changing Lives in Ethiopia - Dr. Morris Hartstein; 3/4/2021 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM (Thursday)

Former St. Louisan, Dr. Morris Hartstein, is currently the Director of Ophthalmic Surgery at Shamir Medical Center, Tel Aviv University School of Medicine in Israel. Since visiting Ethiopia with his family to volunteer in 2014, he has made ten more trips, providing eye care to the poorest of the poor, training Ethiopian ophthalmologists and establishing a food program for over 500 malnourished children. Be sure to join us to hear from Dr. Hartstein about the lifesaving work he has done and continues to do for so many in Ethiopia!
