After last week’s pair of titmice near Incline Village, Adam Panto has found two more today at the far eastern edge of the Upper Truckee Marsh, “very close to the old pier" and “in the willows mostly.” They’re still present as a few minutes ago.
Plain Titmice are awfully hard to ID out of range, but he’s thinking they’re sounding like Junipers now.
In 2003, the last time we had titmice turning up around Tahoe, we also had lots of Pinyon Jays showing up (I’ve still been hearing them in the Glenshire neighborhood of Truckee this last several days), and there was a Pinyon Pine crop failure that year. Seems a likely scenario again.
Good luck!!
