Swainson’s Hawk in north Stockton today.

Kurt Mize

While birding Laughlin Park this morning, I spotted an adult light morph Swainson’s Hawk perched in the top of a deodar cedar near Creekside Elementary School. As I was watching, the bird lifted off and flew to the southeast. If you live in north Stockton, you might want to keep an eye out for it. I assume this is a wanderer from the small group of birds that winter in the Delta rather than an early migrant.

Good birding,
