At long last, the results for the Wallace-Bellota CBC are in! First, we want to thank all of the Area Leaders and their teams for being so patient and flexible with the count this year. You are outstanding, dedicated birders and we thank you.
Turns out we had 140 species this year, which equals last year's count total. It also equals this year's Stockton CBC count total, so there you have it.
Some highlights include the, now famous, Winter wren found at the Mokelumne Fish Hatchery Day Use area, Semi-palmated plovers found at the Harney Lane landfill, Red-breasted Merganser and Western Gull found at Lake Camanche and multiple large flocks of Sandhill crane flyovers. There were extraordinarily high numbers (364) of Lewis's woodpeckers reported and a lone wintering Chipping sparrow.
Once the data is approved by the Regional editor it will be available for review on the National Audubon website.
Thank you all again for your participation and excellent birding skills and let's do it again next year!
