Probable Sagebrush Sparrow on Waverly

David Yee

Dear Birders,

John Harris of Oakdale has reported a Sagebrush Sparrow out on Waverly Rd in the east county. I'm currently at the spot and getting excellent looks at it. It appears to show characteristics better for Sagebrush Sparrow vs Bell's Sparrow.

The bird is found between .80 - 1.0 miles south of Flood Rd. It's very often on the fence line and occasionally on the edge of the road itself. It's mostly by itself. There are some Savannah Sparrows present. It's distinctly larger, much longer in the tail, and paler compared to Savannahs.

Good Birding,
David Yee
