The spawn is on

Let’s try that again...oops. Obviously never meant to send that first one my microphone picked up.
    The herring spawn has gone on and on, quite heavy and extensive from the ball park to china basin. The laying and fishing likely over, but the spoils of roe remain submerged on the rocky rip rap and pilings.
Tomorrow on the afternoon low tide there should be quite a serious gull bonanza going on as roe is exposed for the first time 
 during daylight hours. Of course this is probably the best opportunity to find a slaty-backed gull in San Francisco.
    Amazing how few sf birders get to see a herring run, one of the city’s most remarkable natural phenomenon that happens almost every year.
