Kestrel on Bernal Heights Hill

Donna Hayes

Hi all,

During my walk Thursday afternoon, I saw a male American Kestrel on the south side of Bernal Heights Hill. A pair of kestrels were seen at the same pine tree during the summer.

In the past week, the north side of the hill was busy with Red-breasted Nuthatches, Western Meadowlarks, a Townsend’s Warbler, Say’s Phoebes, and Golden-Crowned Sparrows. Last Saturday, I saw a Peregrine Falcon and a Red-Tailed Hawk interact. Never saw a Peregrine on the Hill before. Fall, indeed!

Good birding,
Donna Hayes
