Mt. Davidson, 05/17/00 (6:50-8:05 AM)

David Armstrong

We checked out Mt. Davidson in the late am (around
11).
We had a probable sighting of the Hammond's Flycatcher
-- I say probable because a) it's the first one I've
seen and b) it was a series of very quick looks,
nothing prolonged. It was in some bushes between the
top of the trail leading to ravine and the summit --
it kept coming out to perch and then hiding out of
view. At one point it ate a berry from the bush. The
details we did get seem to confirm the ID: teardrop
eye ring, pale yellow on belly, olive-gray above. It
also flicked its tail vigorously when we first sighted
it.

Also had most of the other species reported today, and
did spot a lazuli bunting in the broom near the big
fence.
In a separate stop had W wood peewee at Lick Mountain,
and W tanager and grosbeaks in the eucs near the
Coinservatory of Flowers in GGP
