Tern flock?
At Geary and Fillmore a few minutes ago (12/1/2020; 08:20), a bright flock of large, white, swift-moving birds moved over Pacific Heights, maybe visible from Lafayette Square if you were looking south

Say’s Phoebe at Jefferson Square
Shows that we are having a great fall migration and that any old overrun spot in the City can yield good stuff if you keep your eyes on the prize. This particular bird was flycatching off a soccer goa

It must be raining warblers if even Jefferson Square is producing goodies. Last Friday passing through on my way to play tennis I found six YELLOW WARBLERS, a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, a WILSON’S W

I couldn’t take hiding inside anymore so I strapped on the industrial respirator and made my way to Lafayette Park. The first thing I saw was a Black-headed Grosbeak, a FOP (First of Park) for me. Man

Shearwaters
Probably because of the strong overnight winds, there was not a single sooty to be seen this morning (8/5). I watched from the Cliff House at 8 and then moved to the Land’s End overlook at Mile Rock.

Lucky bat sighting
Not birds, but last night at 7:07 I had a chance sighting of 7+ bats feeding at Ulloa and Sunset. They were perfectly backlit by the sunset orange sky. I presume they are Mexican Free-tailed bats, but

Strawberry Hill this afternoon
I had the luckiest after-work birding today. First bird I saw when I got off the N Judah was a pointy-winged PEREGRINE FALCON flapping southwest. On Strawberry Hill I didn’t re-find the Red-eyed Vireo
