Kris Olson
There have been many questions about some sort of memorial for Kris. As you may know, Kris was a Director of Sequoia Audubon. I know that Sequoia Audubon will do something to honor

Re: Kingfishers at Mallard Lake and Metson Lake, Saturday 1/9/2010
Hi, Esther
Your weird duck has some Chinese Crested in it. Mallards will cross with anything ;-). There is a website full of odd duck pictures.

Kingfishers at Mallard Lake and Metson Lake, Saturday 1/9/2010
Headed over to Metson Lake yesterday afternoon to see if the mergansers were still there. Not a single duck in sight, but was treated instead to a kingfisher swooping around over the lake. Before

Buena Vista Park 3pm and notes on Inspiration Point/ El Polin
Buena Vista had typical birds with a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER being the most interesting bird. I mentioned this before but the new paths through the park make birding a pleasant outing.

Quail sighting
I'm always pleased to see quail. Yesterday afternoon in GGPark I saw 7 birds together, 3 males and 4 females, around the back of the Academy of Science.

Re: Ross versus Snow Goose at Crissy Field 1/3/2010
I most likely saw this same bird on my late day walk to Crissy Field. I sighted the bird just as it took winged and circled overhead at the lagoon. From there the bird flew directly to the Golden Gate

That is a Ross's Goose. The small size compared to the Mew and California
Gulls as well as its short-necked, small-billed look are helpful in
identifying it. Also the little stumpy bill

Ross versus Snow Goose at Crissy Field 1/3/2010
Hi,
Saw a Ross or Snow Goose (either would be a first for me!) at the Crissy Field lagoon late Sunday afternoon. It was hanging out with a large flock of gulls on the eastern sandbar by the bridge.

All,
I got to spent all of 1-hour at Battery Godfrey this morning. (8.15 to 9.15)
All the white geese/swans must have been south of me - I did have 100's of Cackling Geese, Canada Geese, Pintail,
