Short-tailed Albatross notice

The Seabird Protection Network put out the following post about the Short-tailed Albatross. Please share with anyone who may encounter it. Thanks!  A rare short-tailed albatross has been recently spotted by fishermen off the coast of Half Moon Bay. Short-tailed albatrosses are protected under the Endangered Species Act. If you see this bird, please give it plenty of space - keep your distance, keep fishing gear away, and refrain from feeding it. The Short-tailed Albatross is one of the world's rarest seabirds. This bird - a juvenile - is identified by its brown body and large, bright pink beak. They were common off our coast in the 19th century before being hunted to near extinction for their feathers. Fall 2021 Bird Photo Big Day - Saturday September 18th

Folks, It's almost here! The Bird Photo Big Day is a week from Saturday. We need you on the team! Join in on Saturday, September 18th to support San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO)! Let’s photograph as many Bay Area bird species as possible in a single day all as one distributed team. Since we are collaborating, you don't need to bird all day. Some of our best birds have come from folks who only took a few shots - but got birds we needed!
This fall's theme is A Day In The Life Of A Bird. On September 18th, start snapping pictures of birds having family time, playtime, and siesta time. Preening to get ready for work. On the commute. Getting children fed. Even a date night! Spot Turkey Vultures being the road clean-up crew - take a shot, send it in, and we’ve got a species to add to the count. A Black Phoebe on a No Parking sign is working traffic enforcement. A Double-Crested Cormorant with its wings outstretched is preaching it! So pull out your phone and capture that moment. Any camera will do, and every bird counts!
We’ll have a photo contest in addition to the Bird Photo Big Day Count. The categories are:

Refound Blackpoll Warbler! In the same red flowering eucalyptus at the north end of the lake.
Black line through eye, dark wings with white wing bars, streaking in front of wings. Overall light/dingy yellow. Ran into Dario Taraborelli who got photos. Amazing! Thanks again Brian!!!! Whitney

A Blackpoll Warbler was in the flowering tree at the north end of North Lake in GG Park a little while ago. It fed briefly, flew to an adjacent redwood, then took off west across the road and into the pine forest.

Since I haven't seen any reports today, I'll mention that the Tennessee Warbler was already being viewed when I showed up mid-morning, where Adi found it yesterday. The bird eventually returned to the alders by the yellow chairs behind the nursery, where a second Tennessee joined it and associated with it closely for at least ten minutes. The second bird was a first fall female, yellow over most of the plumage, with the undertail fading to a faint yellowish white. Sibley shows a good rendition of it in his latest edition. Brian Fitch

Gray Flycatcher at Olympic Golf Course 09/07/21

Hi all,
This afternoon, Augie Kramer and I were visiting a friend living in the apartments overlooking the golf course off of John Muir Dr., near Vista Grande canal, and from their balcony we heard a 'whit' and saw a pale flycatcher. After getting the scope on it, we learned it was a Gray Flycatcher! The bird was hanging out on the backside of the center of the complex in the golf course, near a dirt mound with brushy plants around. Unfortunately, I don't know how chaseable this bird will be. Perhaps accessing the backside of the western end of the building and looking through the fence may yield views. The bird kept going deeper into the golf course and disappeared. Right now (10:10-10:25) watching a PRAIRIE WARBLER north of the Dragonfly Creek bridge around the nursery enclosure.

Possible RED KNOTS Lake Merced
