seawatch 4/19/14, yesterday's GGAS walk etc.

Seawatched briefly this morning (6:40 - 7:30 a.m.) from the south end of Great Highway/Ocean Beach across from the wastewater plant. Partly cloud, west wind 10-15mph, dying down to a light breeze by 7:15, partly overcast with decent visibility with the following of note:

Brant - 2 north
White-winged Scoter - m,f on the water
RT Loon - 7 basic 2 alt
Pacific Loon - 10 alt, 2 basic
Common Loon - 8, 3 on the water 5 north, all in alternate
Brown Pelican - 18, several small groups
Black-bellied Plover - 5 on the beach
Marbled Godwit - 49
Whimbrel - 3
Sanderling - 1
ELEGANT TERN - single bird north, have arrived/passed by much earlier again this year at several spots on the Central Coast, 3rd year in a row we've had April Elegants in SF/Marin
Common Murre - 23, singles and small groups, north
Pigeon Guillemot - 3 north
AMERICAN PIPIT - flying north directly over the seawatch perch, calling

Yesterday's GGAS walk on Corona Hill was highlighted by respectfully brief views of a staked out Allen's Hummingbird nest containing two chicks (eggs laid 3/24), only obvious migrant passerine was a WARBLING VIREO near the basketball courts.
