Would you mind giving John some help on getting his KX3 going?

I documented several Icom radio and was going to try to get a KX3 documented but all the post seem to be scattered over the forum making it hard to gather.

John has the CAT control working but needs some pointers on the audio.

Thanks for any help you might provide to him.

Thanks for this suggestion.
The SignaLink offered optional "plug and play" modules for the jumper
configuration. Yes, I have one in the SignaLink for the Icom 7000 radio.

I would never have considered that the jumper block would be the same but
you appear to be correct: same pin-out-to pin-out exactly. As long as this
module will seat properly, there maybe a chance this will work.

First time that I ever installed a new piece of gear stealing jumpers and
cables from an old unit made by a different manufacturer.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Harold,

I have spent some time on the group site searching for how to set up the audio for my KX3.  I have read a lot of my old emails, but have not hit paydirt.  Can you recommend a link I can use?

John,

You cannot use the instruction for the 7100 or 7300.  Those radios have a built in sound card and can get CAT control, TX audio, and RX audio over the USB cable.

What Howard has told you is that the KX3 does not have a built in sound card so you have to get you audio from the radio to the audio card in the rigpi.  There is no way around that.

I suggested last night that you do a search on the forum which it looks like you ignored.  You can search on the KX3 or as Howard suggested the TS-2000.  The Kenwood TS-2000 doesn't have a souind card either so it's also an example.

This all assumes you have a RigPi with the audio card in it.  If you built you own system with just a Pi board then you have another challenge to over comes.  But since you ordered a cable you must have the entire system with the audio board.

Lots of available information on the forum if you will take the time to search for it.

Harold

Harold,

I have to confess that I did not do a search of the forum.  The only part of the Icom 7100/7300 that I used was the setup in Mumble.  All that looked fine.  I had audio which seemed to follow a station that I had tuned in.  I will give the forum a try.  Maybe my past searches were not pointed enouth.  Pperhaps I can hone the search down to good topics.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.  I think that you gave me the clue about connecting to rigpi with the rigpi.local command.  I had fumbled around for a long time unable to get there.  Then I had problmes with the USB connection between rigpi and my KX3.  Those two issues moved me ahead substantially.

Thanks,  John

Re: FW: [RigPi] Icom question

Howard,

I only have one cable to connect the audio between the rigpi and my KX3.  At least until I get the cable for MFJ.  I was hoping that I could get the audio from the KX3 working with that one cable.  I have followed the setup shown in a guide for an Icom 7100/7300 to get the receive audio  connection working, but it was unsuccessful.  I am not worried about the transmit audio until I get the MFJ cable.  I will be leaving on vacation in two weeks and would like to have the system working remotely by then.  Is there a way to get the Receive Audio working before I get the MFJ cable?

Hi John,

Audio for the KX3 is the same as audio for any other radio that does not have internal CODECs.  In addition to the RX audio cable, you also need a TX cable from RigPi to the KX3 Mic connector.  Use a stereo cable so you can use the special circuitry in RigPi to turn the KX3 power on.

I recommend you look at recent posts here on the forum regarding audio for the Kenwood TS-2000 for suggestions for getting audio going.  In addition, you need Mumble running on your remote device (or Plumble if using Android) to provide 2-way audio.

Now that I somewhat understand the audio system I think it will fall into place without problem for the new users.

Thanks for this information on the 6-pin mini DIN cable from MFJ.
A number of us are trying to get this cable from MFJ.

I have a SignaLink which uses "their" 6-pin mini DIN cable (designated SLCAB6PM)
for the interface. I checked the pin-outs for continuity and it matches what you have
as I followed the numbers down your list.

So, perhaps an option for people who are held up by the MFJ backorder of this cable
but lucky enough to get the jumper block to configure their radio. Unfortunately,
I am waiting for this.

Well, I went and did an elecraft SW download and installed it on the KX3 to see of the USB cable was ok.  That worked fine.  Then I went bacl to the rigpi and connected all up again and this time it worked.  WawLA.  So now my impass is the audio from the KX3 to the Rigpi.  What ideas do you have about that?  I am running the tuner from a laptop through the router to the rigpi.

If the only item is none, RigPi has not recognized your USB cable.  Try pulling it out from RigPi and plugging it back in.  Refresh the browser window showing the Advanced Settings window and see if the cable now appears.  Until it shows up we can't control the radio.

Darren,

This information has been covered many times before and also there are some examples in the files section.   There is a search function a the top of the forum where you can search for just about anything you want.

What you are asking can be done with macros.  If you search around the forum on the 7300 you will find some examples written in CI-V code.

I found these examples of commands written in Hamlib language for the 7300 that are easier to enter.
