Re: Audio
Steve_KE4LC
Hi Dave - great about CAT - that’s 50% of the battle won! Question: Did you order the audio card with your RigPi? If you DO have the Optional audio card, you can quickly get to receive audio by connecting a 3.5mm connector (both ends) jumper cable between the speaker output of your rig (rear of rig) and the RX input of your RigPi. You will need the audio cable because your rig, like mine, does not have a USB connection. So, we have to take the rig’s analog audio output and take it directly to the RigPi via the audio cable. Your rig also has a second analog audio output port (think it’s AF out?). I would start at the speaker output and then try the AF port if it provides better quality. After you have made the connection, you will have to set up the audio input in Mumble, the audio program RigPi uses. There is a lot of setup info for Mumble and support program Alsamixer in the online RigPi help literature. I can help if you run into problems. Transmit audio is a bit trickier. First of all, another question... How are you planning to use the RigPi? voice - SSB, all digital (FT8, etc) or a mix? Your answer will help folks on this forum craft an approach for transmit audio. Quality voice output requires signal processing - compression, gain, etc. Connecting to the Yaesu rig’s rear panel data (packet) port unfortunately bypasses these functions. Data is just 1’s/0’s - not much processing needed. For digital alone, the recommended data cable (RigPi Audio RJ45 socket to rig data/packet port) sold by MFJ works fine. In contrast, the data cable sold by MFJ which goes from the RiGPi RJ45 does not work well for voice audio. For SSB, we need to go into a mic port for audio processing. Your rig has a rear mic patch jack which should allow direct connection of an 3.5mm termination audio cable from RigPi TX OUT to the rig‘s. Other hams create a custom cable to plug into the front mic connector. Once we know what you want to do with the rig, we can work with others to determine the best cable path forward. 73, Steve KE4LC

Re: Rig PI VER 2 Bug ?
Hi Russ,
The Mic gain creep you describe is most likely an issue with Hamlib related to the FTdx-3000, and is something we can fix. First we need to collect some data to pass along to the Hamlib maintainers. It might be simplest for me to log in to your RigPi to run some commands. If that would be OK, please send your Internet IP via private email to me, including any passwords you have changed. I will log in using VNC, so port 5900 must be open. To fix the "executable script" issue, open File Manager>Edit>Preferences. In the General pane, put a check in the option "Don't ask options on launch executable file." --Howard

Re: PTT
Since the FT-857 supports PTT by CAT, RigPi should do fine toggling it. In Advanced Radio Settings, set CAT PTT to 'ON when transmitting.' Set PTT Cmd to 'default.' Restart the radio connection to have any changes registered. If the radio doesn't respond, there are additional tests we can run to isolate the problem.
Let's solve the PTT issue, then go on to the other problems you are having. Since RigPi 2 uses the latest Hamlib library, there is always a possibility something needs further tweaking in Hamlib. If that turns out to be the case, the Hamlib maintainers are very responsive with fixes once an issue has been reported. --Howard

Re: PTT
G8HAV
Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have downloaded and installed Ver2 and now the PTT or T/R will not put the FT857 into Transmit. Been into the advanced radio settings and changed various PTT settings but nothing has changed.
Also the S meter seems stuck at a fixed value S6, irrespective of the S value on the FT857. On V1.05 it did show the same value on the RSS as shown on the rig. Now got Mumble working with a external USB sound fob. Ver2 has sorted out all the screen sizes so I can adjust settings in Mumble WSJT-X etc. Still a few niggles, will keep trying with help from this group.

Hi Russ
I have tried what you suggested, however still unable to transmit. Some one stated that they had a fix for this issue, and radio however I have not seen that. Another issue that I have is that I am unable to locate the usb serial function = ci- v setting . I am trying to help a friend of mine which means I have a limited time to correct these issues. Thanks for being patient with me. Bruce

If you are receiving audio OK from the
Radio but not able to get transmit audio into the radio then once
the mumble client is connected on I phone try muting and
deafening the client on the I phone client and then unmute and un
deafen the client an I bet your transmit audio will suddenly
work. I don't know why this works but I found it by accident on
my ipad. It fixes the problem time. I have suggested this to
others and to their amazement it fixed the transmit audio issue
Let me know if this fixes your problem

Remember you connect your wiring from the switches inside your amp. Mine is also 220VAC. There is a script for the switches on the Pi already written. You just need to modify to your operation.

Dan,
Yes there is a way to turn on & off, then turn standby & operation. They have several add on boards for a Pi3B or 2B. Use a 4 channel Relay Hat -- Allen Higgins KE8KZO

RigPi User Manual- Remote Power Switch
Dan Heather
I would like to remotely control my old (SB-200) linear amplifier power on/off. At the top of page 148 in the V2 RigPi User Manual (Help menu/RigPi Help on the browser tuner page) it shows a most intriguing photo of a multi-AC outlet gadget but no description. Is that a way to control AC power to external equipment? If so, how?
The only stumbling block is that the amp is running on 240 VAC, but I can look around for the right gadget if this is a possible configuration for the RigPi. Thanks! Dan N1DH

Yaesu
hazzle
Hi Howard The Yaesu FTDX 5000 is now connected, it was the power supply. It was changed from a 2.5 amp raspberry pi charger to a 3 amp charger. The radio connected 1st try, the only part to sort now is the audio and I think this will be a setting that needs changing somewhere that my carer will manage to find. Thanks for all the help and support and hopefully back on the air soon 73's Dave G4WBB

Hi Bruce, you will have to install the free Mumble app on your iPhone. Go to the App Store application installed on all iPhones. Tap the hourglass search icon and enter Mumble. Upon searching, you will see Mumble pop up with a prompt to install it. Install and you are in business! It works well. Howard has some good instructions in the RigPi help sections for setup/use.
