Don, uncheck the PTT ON when radio connected box in the Keyer settings window.  That option forces the Keyer PTT to be engaged whenever the radio starts.  It is there to allow the Keyer PTT to be used for other control purposes.

Hi Steve,

In WSJT-X Settings you will see an option for transmit mode.  You can select USB or USB-D.  When WSJT-X starts up it will automatically select the mode you have chosen.

Dayton was fun, glad to meet you there!

Re: Mumble connected on audio

HERB KEATON N2GEW

Hello again:
I apologize: what I thought was an audio issue involving the Mumble VOIP and Alsamixer appears now to
be unrelated. Newbie error on my part.

I started the ICOM and connected to the RigPi cleanly. I DID NOT start the Mumble software. When I went to the PTT whether on a WIFI computer or the iPhone, the radio goes into transmit.
I have the frequency set on 80 meter LSB, I assume this is all normal.
But listening on an out-of-state SDR and seeing my power meter deflect/stabilize at 100 watts is not. On the SDR, it sounds like a solid grumbling sound showing clearly on the waterfall for the length of the transmission.

I, of course, will not repeat this except on a dummy load: until I can resolve.

Left to my own resources, I would say now the issue is probably with the MFJ-5708P cable OR the MFJ-1204P8 jumper. I was one who bought the cable at HRO and it did not have the jumper in the package. I called MFJ and waited a week. I was presuming they sent me the correct jumper to install in the socket on the RigPi board. Back to the drawing board?

Any thoughts and assist is very much appreciated.

Hi Pierre,

There may be a way to send CAT commands for that using a Macro that will need to be programmed.
First though, some questions for you.
How do you have the TX and RX audio connected from the RigPi to the FT-450D?
Are you using the DATA mini-DIN6 connector or something different?
Are you wanting to have the same function as pressing the DSP button on the front of the radio?
Does the audio already have DSP enabled and you want to be able to turn that off and then on, or is DSP missing and you wish to have DSP?

Reading the Yasesu CAT guide for the FT-450D, I am left with the idea that a Mic UP or DN button could be assigned the role of the DSP button.
Then the Macro could be to press the UP or DN button remotely.

Re: TS 2000 no PTT

Howard,

I have the following information per your note:
ESC and SPACEBAR has no impact on the RED PTT light.  It remains on.
Under KEYER, the following are ticked:  PTT ON when radio connected, Enable Keyer PTT, Enable Sidetone.  With this condition, there was no change after a reboot.
I unticked Enable Sidetone and rebooted, the condition did not change.  I returned it to the ticked position.
If I DISCONNECT RADIO, the light goes off.  As soon as I CONNECT RADIO, the light comes back on.  The light is off immediately after a reboot, but comes on as soon as I touch PTT.

I am set on 40M SSB for this testing.

Thanks

Hi folks... Our FT-450D is now in remote operation using RigPI via an internet connection. Basic operations are working fine. My question: Is there a macro that we can write and use to (de)activate the DSP of that rig remotely ?
Thanks!

Re: Mumble connected on audio

HERB KEATON N2GEW

Hi Howard:
I have been working on getting the audio settled as my first effort I noticed I was
producing substantial carrier, even though the PTT amd Mode were set to LSB.
The power meter saw a continuous 60 watt carrier and a remote  SDR heard a loud rumbling and
negligent audio. Just a loud blast and ugly.

I decided to check the settings in Alsamixer and found them to be much off of the recommended
shown in RigPi Help. Master Gain set to 30, Sidetone to 100 and Mic Boost 0, for starters.
I have the Input Mux set for Mic thinking this to be correct since I am taking the audio from
the Radio Mic connector on the ICOM 756 PRO. Yes?

I will report back tomorrow now that I have the Alsamixer settings where RigPi Help recommends.
Hopefully, the charm since the settings were so far off.

No sweat

Spacebar key resets PTT. Sometimes 2 or 4 keystrokes are needed.

Thanks, Tim.  So the problem goes away with the Hamlib Dummy instead of the IC-718.  Back to the 718, when PTT hangs, does either the ESC or Spacebar key reset PTT?  I assume the T/R macro shows the same?  (Tap T/R once, PTT goes on, tap it again, which should turn it off, PTT keeps engaged. Try ESC and Spacebar.)

Let's concentrate on audio for the moment.  With audio out confirmed from RigPi, disconnect the earbuds, leaving the RJ45 connected.  With transmit power set to 0, or better yet into a dummy load, run the test again to see if the audio modulates your radio.

Hi Howard,

The audio tests worked properly after I shut down Mumble. I am using the data port for audio. The Internet connection appears to b wrking now except fo rthe following:

Something new just happened - when I used the RigPi Help menu to access the forum for my last post, I got the No Internet message when I backed up to the RigPi main screen. (I don't know if RigPi can open multiple windows. I have to right click on the RigPi logo at top left and choose back to return to previous screens.

Hi Jeff,

Only one program can use the audio device at a time, so shut down Mumble for the tests.

Restating your Internet connection, if you are at home, when you log out of RigPi and log back in, you do/don't get the error message?

You are using the DATA port, for audio, correct?

HI Howard,

This may be a false alarm. I just connected/disconnected using DNS and the RSS terminal did not give me an error message. Maybe I was doing something out of sequence. The following except for the TX audio was a response to your earlier questions that may be moot.

The Rigpi is disconnecting and reconnecting properly when I'm on the LAN. I am using a DNS account to connect even if I am home. There is only one router. When I disconnect (I assume you mean disconnect the radio on the tuner screen) and then go to the RSS terminal, I get the Internet Not Found message. I have to reboot to clear the message. (Seems to work ok now)

I ran the tests but heard no audio on the earbuds. The following is the test readout. Should I have Rigpi shut down to run the test?

speaker-test 1.1.3

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
pi@rigpi:~ $ speaker-test -t sine -f 2000 -c2

speaker-test 1.1.3

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
Sine wave rate is 2000.0000Hz
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy
pi@rigpi:~ $ speaker-test -t wave -c2

speaker-test 1.1.3

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Playback open error: -16,Device or resource busy

Sorry to keep bugging you on this, but we must be very close to solving the issue. I would have set up direct cables, but the 857 has the RJ-45 mic connector and I don't have tools or desire to do that.

73,
Jeff

Howard:

Tried via RSS direct and Android Tab. Same results: PTT On: 1-3 second delay before RSS PTT Led lights up. PTT Off: 1-3 second delay before RSS PTT Led goes off. Doesn't hang...

Thx

Don, when the PTT light is on, does it release if you press ESC on your keyboard?  Does it release if you tap the Space bar?

What are thee settings for these options in Keyer settings?  PTT ON when Radio Connected; Enable Keyer PTT.

Re: TS 2000 no PTT

Howard,

Thanks for the response.  I confirm the setting is "ON when Transmiting".  I saved the setting and then rebooted the RSS.  I rechecked and the setting was correct.  The PTT light was off at this point.  When I touched the PTT switch, the PTT light became RED, the TS2000 DID NOT key.  When I released the PTT the PTT light remained RED.  I touched the PTT again and let off, and there was no change.  The RED PTT light on the RSS remained on.

Cheers.

Using RSS with an external program

obligon

I have gotten my RSS fully up and running now.  And my last step is to connect RSS to an external program that sends and receives digitally encoded messages.  The program is used within the Air Force MARS program and is not something I can go into detail on in an open forum.  I can say that the output from the program is on a USB port and normally goes to a sound card which sends the signals to the audio input/outputs and the ptt of the radio.   I am looking for a way to do this with the RSS system on the client side.  I can not have the program on the Server side as a Rasberry Pi version is not available.

If you can help me it would be very much appreciated and I am willing to give more details on the software via private emails.

Thank you for your help
