Buddy,

I have it installed with a K3 and it is pretty straight forward.
Mine uses the original KIO3 board (not the B with USB sound card internal to the rig) and I have connected:
2 each 3.5mm to 3.5mm 3 pin cables, 1 from the K3 Line out to RX on the RigPi, and the 2nd from TX on the Rigpi to Line in on the K3.
That takes care of the audio.
For the CAT control, I used a FTDI USB to DB-9 connected from a USB port on the RigPi to the Accessory port on the P3, but could be the RS-232 port on the K3 if no P3/KPA500/KAT500.
PTT is handled via CAT.
I did need to remote VNC into the RigPi and run the Alsamixer (from a terminal window) and configure the INPUT to MIC with 0db of boost using F6 in Alsamixer.

I picked up a KIO3B at Hamvention.
I plan to install that next week and I expect to use a single USB to USB connection and can elaborate on that once have have it installed.
I only did it to bring the K3 to K3s specs, there are no issues with RigPi using this original KIO3.

Got my RigPi working

Well after only about an hour of trying I got my Rigpi working.  Tested on both Android and IOS.  I elected to start with my Icom R-72 receiver first.  Everything worked using the instruction in the RigPi help file.  The only problem I ran across was the default baud rate in Hamlib for the R-72 receiver was 9600 while the actual default in the radio was 1200.  I just followed the troubleshooting procedures in the help file and got it working.  Tomorrow I’ll try and set up my Icom 7100.  One thing I also did that was very helpful was download a 30 day free trial version of Ham Radio Deluxe for Windows.  This allowed me to verify my USB interface cable to the radio was working and insure I knew the proper baud rate and CI-V address configured in the radio.

i also have an xfinity dual band wireless router.   also hope a brave soul will share experiences.

Will the rigpi requires a dynamic / static IP? Our ISP in the philippines is under CGNAT where a 1 public ip were shared by many users, i don't think port forwarding is an issue though.

TS 590 Audio TX/RX

Good Morning All!

Anyone try this device on a TS-590sg yet? 
Just got mine yesterday from HRO for the purpose of replacing Remotehams.
USB connections seem solid and is allowing me to control the rig just fine but the 13pin din to RJ45 connection is not giving any audio.
I think my audio setting on the 590 are correct but I am wide open to check again.

The FRG-100 is on the list.

Isn’t the IC-A24 an aircraft band hand held?  It’s not on the list.  

IC-2725 not on the list.  I looked at the manual and got the impression it’s not fully CAT controllable.   Limited to memory programming.  But I also cud b wrong.

Here is additional info:

1. The IC-718 Baud rate can be set using the menu selection for AutoBaud.  Default is “At” which is automatic.  Other fixed values can be found in the AutoBaud list.  Select the highest Baud rate in that list.  This is what Hamlib uses for their default.

2. The menu selection CI-V Transceive (which sends unsolicited data from the radio), must be OFF or RSS will get confused.

3. In other messages we have described how to use the Raspberry Pi Terminal to bypass RigPi.  You’ve done that, but try again after making the changes in 1 and 2.  If you get a prompt “Command:” you are good.  Type an F followed by a return to read the radio’s frequency.  If you see the frequency you can start celebrating.

4. Use Ctrl+C to exit the rigctl program.  Open a RigPi browser and go to Advanced Radio settings.  Make all boxes say Default.  Try Connect Radio.  If it fails, use Disconnect Radio, then try the Test button.  As Mike said, the images you sent need to be higher resolution so we can read them.

There is a possibility the cable you are using for CI-V to USB is not correct, or may be bad...

I’ve not used CI-V on an IC-718 myself so we’re both learning until someone else who has jumps in to help!

To learn more about it refer to the 718’s user manual and Hamlib.   User manual is easy so that’s what I looked at first.  I even looked at a couple you tube videos to see how it works.   I could not find in the manual exactly what RANGE of BAUD RATES the 718 supports but I did see an AUTO selection.   AUTO would be one thing to try but I just looked at Hamlib docs and they indicate max baud rate is 19,200, 8n1 BUT the 718 manual doesn’t specifically indicate how to to change baud rate to a specific speed.  Having a 718 to play with would possibly expose that unknown.   But I would try CI-V to AUTO on the 718... or if you can figure out with the radio how to set a specific speed to 19,200, do that. Set/verify the CI-V address to 5E, (the default), CI-V transceive to on (the default), CI-V 731 mode to off (the default).   For RigPi Settings>Radio>Basic>Manu Icom, model IC-718, port /dev/tty/USB0. Everything else to default.  Settings>Radio>Advanced use all the default settings for now.  Click test radio, see what happens.  I’m doing this from memory with no support hardware (RigPi) in front of me.  4 hours of HamVention left!

Can be easy, can be difficult...

Hopefully someone who has done this will jump in and help us...

Saw some posts somewhere about having to turn off CI-V transceive on icom radios (which I did). Dont know if i need to maybe specifically set baud rate on the 718 and rigpi? Tinkering around with it. I had several cables laying around which i thought should work for CIV (have the USB end with that 'converter) and 1/8 " on the other for the rig. Enjoying myself, hasnt exactly been plug-n-play yet, but somehow i'll figure it out  :)

If the receiver can be controlled via CAT commands, and recognizes the commands of another radio listed, then it should work.
Audio from most any radio or audio source can be carried remotely via Ethernet or WiFi by RigPi using the Mumble VOIP server.

Hi Steve,

I think that you are looking for a repeater controller.
The RigPi is meant to control a CAT capable radio and make an audio connection using a network connection and does not support those roles using only an RF link.

if your radio will do AM then yes.  The rigpi will allow you to select ssb, fm, am, etc. 


Host of live ham show called Amateur Radio Roundtable every Tues night at 8:00 PM central. All shows are recorded and can be watched at any time on on our website.
