pi9k6 Winlink Pat ARDOP

Fred Cunha

I have a pi9k6 working with Pi linbpq ARDOP and ARIM.  I would like to use PAT Winlink to do email with pi9k6 over ARDOP.

Anyone aware of plans to add support a serial connection for ARDOP with PAT?

Thanks!

Troy - K4JDA

Not sure on your question, but would love to see how you set up bpq, ARDOP, and ARIM.

Fred Cunha

I plan on publish my steps soon... I just need to resolve this one issue... Here is were I am at now...

What I want to do is;

email <-> HF RADIO <-> WINLINK System

I want to eliminated the internet on my side.

I tried following the instructions for using LinBPQ as a Gateway for PAT (http://www.cantab.net/users/john.wiseman/Documents/PATSuppport.html), but fail to get a connection due to an error from PAT: "2019/04/02 06:47:15 ARDOP TNC initialization failed: dial tcp: lookup CMSTelnet$11$K6FVC@....21: no such host:"

My PAT ARDOP Config;
  "ardop": {
   "addr": "CMSTelnet$11$K6FVC@....64:8772",
    "arq_bandwidth":{
      "Forced": false,
      "Max": 500
    },
    "rig": "ft847",
    "ptt_ctrl": false,
    "beacon_interval": 0,
    "cwid_enabled": true
  },

I think I am missing a definition in the bpq32.conf. Here is my telnet section:
PORT
 ID=Telnet Server
 DRIVER=Telnet
 CONFIG
    LOGGING=1
    DisconnectOnClose=0     ;  1 = closes window when you bye
    TCPPORT=8010
    FBBPORT=8011
    HTTPPORT=8080
    LOGINPROMPT=user:
    PASSWORDPROMPT=password:
    MAXSESSIONS=10
    CMS=1
    CMSCALL=K6FVC-11       ; CMS Access K6FVC (with SSID if used)
    CMSPASS=      ; WL2K sysop password
    FALLBACKTORELAY=1    ; will try to get to RMS RELAY if CMS unavaiable
    RELAYHOST=192.168.1.21  ; put the name or ip number of your RMS_RELAY here
    CTEXT=Welcome to K6FVC Telnet Server\n Enter ? for list of commands\n\n
    USER=k6fvc,password,K6FVC1,,SYSOP

The PI96K is connected to linbpq, correct?  If so, shouldn't you be using the telnet transport in PAT to talk to linbpq, not the PAT ARDOP transport?

Thanks for the help!

Try setting the radio frequency manually and leaving off the freq? bit. The
gateway interface doesn’t support sending commands to the radio.

I'd only ever used the web gui, not the command line.

This works for me. It connects to BPQ Node using telnet to 127.0.0.1:8772
then connects out using BPQ Port 8 (my ARDOP port) to RMS Gateway GM8BPQ-10
using mycall GM8BPQ. To connect to a different gateway change gm8bpq-10 to
that call.

D:\pat\pat connect telnet://gm8bpq:CMSTelnet$8$gm8bpq-10@....0.1:8772/wl2k

This also works with pat connect mytelnet with config containing

"connect_aliases": {
"telnet": "telnet://{mycall}:CMSTelnet@...:8772/wl2k",
"mytelnet": "telnet://{mycall}:CMSTelnet$8$gm8bpq-10@....0.1:8772/wl2k"
},

It looks like using the command line required the /wl2k on the end, whereas
using the gui doesn't. I'll update my document to show this.

The 192.168.1.64 in the example is my host address. You should change that
to the address of the machine running BPQ. If it is the same as the machine
running PAT use 127.0.0.1

Sorry, I’ve just had a closer look at your BPQ32.cfg. You need RELAYAPPL=BBS
to tell linbpq to listen on port 8772. That is why you get connection
refused.

On the command line you need

pat connect telnet://k6fvc:CMSTelnet$4$k6fvc-10@....0.1:8772/wl2k

Looks like the $port$call construct isn’t being recognised. What version of
LinBPQ are you running? The PAT gateway feature isn’t in the released
version, only in the beta.

Odd,

I copied your command onto my system, just changing the IP address to point
to my pi, and got through to the node and tried to connect.

Could you send me your Telnet log (Telnet_20190403.log)?

Thanks,

I am so close… Thank You for all your assistance John!

I am using the beta 3-27 version of pilinbpq.

The radio now ‘keys-up' several times while trying to connect using Pat GUI but not with Command Line. It will however only allow one attempt, then I have to reboot to get it to retry it again.

Don

I know this is old, but I found the problem with this command line example:

$ pat connect telnet://k6fvc:CMSTelnet$4$k6fvc-11@...:8772/k6sdr

The dollar sign ($) is a special character to the Linux shells, so it must be escaped (with '\'):

$ pat connect telnet://k6fvc:CMSTelnet\$4\$k6fvc-11@...:8772/k6sdr

or the whole port string enclosed in single quotes.

$ pat connect 'telnet://k6fvc:CMSTelnet$4$k6fvc-11@...:8772/k6sdr'
