I might also mention the dd and xz also should work on WSL (Linux running under Windows 10). I have the Ubuntu version installed and the commands are there. I tested xz, but have not tested dd in this

The firmware to support USB boot is now in STABLE, so it should be safer to change from 'critical' to 'stable' instead of 'beta' so that you aren't always bleeding edge.

Brand New to Raspberry Pi
The image is focused on Ham Radio, and many of the extra applications were left out. However, you can add them easily. In the menu go to Preferences -> Add/Remove Software.
