Screen Resolution
I have my pi up and running and running it headless with VNC. No matter which screen resolution I choose, the display on my tablet, ipad or computer stays the same. It doesnt display the entire screen and the screen looks to be on a very low resolution. Big icons and text,, etc. What else can I do to make it display like it does on an hdmi tv screen?

Well, if you're sure the hardware is not the issue, then it has to be the software setup. If you download and install a standard Raspbian Buster image, it will already be setup to connect to a local WiFi. I don't know what the Ham2 guy has done to setup his WiFi, so I can't comment on that. Perhaps you should contact him directly. There have been a fair number of people on this and other forums that are having issues with the WiFI on his setup. You might try just using the default Buster image and then installing the ham software that you want. It's pretty easy if you just use the built in package installer. More complicated if you want to use "git" to get the source code and compile it yourself. Mark KD0QYN

Re: W3DJS Raspberry Pi Ham Radio Image v2.0 Released

Some Raspberry Pi's come with a not working WiFi. I have seen a few out of the couple hundred I've built. I have a couple in my shack like like. Try a WiFi dongle and see if that doesn't work. You'll have to enable and setup wlan1 though. Quality control is probably a little low, but then what do you expect for $35 or $55? There's no way to fix it if it's bad. Just use that one with a hardwired LAN connection, or use an separate dongle. Mark KD0QYN

I assume this was done on windows with pitnc_setparams. I'm running Linux and am unable to find a `amd64` build of pitnc_setparams. I've attempted to put the TNC back on the raspberry pi but am unable to use it anymore. I can not find the original firmware to revert the changes. Who is the developer of pitnc_setparms? Surely there is an appropriate place to find support for their product. Thanks, Ash

Re: Novice in the Raspberry Pi
And you don't have to use NOOBS ... you can install synaptic on various Raspbian (and other Debian family) images.

You might have more success with "sudo apt-get install synaptic"

Synaptic is a GUI front-end for the package repository and it can display and install every officially sanctioned package available for the installation. It can also be used to mark packages for removal. HTH Ray vk2tv

I have loaded a few sd cards with the KM4ACK pi build and some with the W3DJS image. I set them all up using an ethernet connection and an hdmi connection. All goes well. I VNC into them and I can see the desktop on my computer or tablet. I shut down with no problems. When I disconnect the hdmi as well as the ethernet and try to just connect through VNC, I see the message "cannot currently show the desktop". What would be the display resolution that I need? I have tried a few different resolutions and when hdmi is plugged in my tablet sees the desktop. Without hdmi plugged in, no desktop. I know VNC is connecting to the pi but not able to display the desktop. Is there a different way to set screen resolutions other than from the configuration menu?I have the same issue. I leave a monitor connected and powered.

Diane, edit /boot/config.txt and add framebuffer_width=1900 framebuffer_height=1024 without the hdmi connected you need to set a size suitable for your screen. Regards, Ian..

You said disconnect HDMI and Ethernet. VNC needs the Ethernet connected if you are not using WiFi and is in the same network as the place you want to connect from.
