Hey gang,

has anyone ever used d-rats with gpsd? I’ve been trying but have been unsuccessful. I have found only one historical post on an old board about it and tried those instructions.

thank you

I had it running, but with another cmd line, but it stopped after a short time. I give your solution a try later today.

Thanks Mathison.

This project uses mostly 3D printer parts for the build and I do not own one. The design is usefull as a electronics example.

The J1 pin been removed to allow for maximum audio. The squelch on radio is open. This is only on the Pi 4, unless the Signalink has packed it in.

It is normal for the Signalink not to provide an input level control on the sound control panel, I assume because the codec used does not have a software controlled input amplifer. There is an internal link to increase the level and make sure the external rx pot is set to maximum.

Hi Don,
I have the Pi-3 and there isn't a MIC input on the Pi itself.  Unless you have an external sound dongle you are using there will not be an RX device.
These USB Sound dongles are like 5 bux on Amazon (make sure linux compatible.)  Running the command aplay -l && arecord -l  will tell you the devices available for record and playback.  I ran in to this with Direwolf.  The PI can send out via the 3.5mm plug but there is no input.
Hope this helps..

I forgot to specify on my previous email (I pasted from my notes), that is because I chose to stop trying to to figure it out. Often software upgrades broke the functionality and for some reason the person who writes rigctl is a wizard that always gets that right. I use it instead of direct serial from some apps.

Re: Gpredict cannot connect to Yaesu FT817

To control the radio, the rigctl daemon must be running first. To start the rig control daemon:

rigctld -m 120 -r /dev/tty.KeySerial1 -s 38400 -t 4532 -C stop_bits=2&

Notice /dev/tty.KeySerial1 is the serial cable you are using. I switched to keyspan to stop fighting with drivers on my Mac. 4532 is just a TCP port number of your choosing.  Just make sure is not already used. I picked that one for some reason.

Then from gpredict:

Edit->Preferences->Interfaces-> Add new:  and my settings are included in the picture. The name you can name as you wish. The port must match the one you used in rigctl.

I hope that helps.

"installWebMail" is the script that was running. The error message indicated line 40 of the installWebMail script threw the error. Line 40, quoted in my message is "./linbpq --adduser RMS "" TRUE" resulted in the File not found error, stating that the file linbpq was not found.

As it turned out, the binary file linbpq was a 32 bit file and the computer is a 64 bit system. Once I installed the necessary 32 bit libraries, the file executed as it should.

I think that error means 'installWebMail' was not found.
Referencing in line 40 of your install script.
Does 'installWebMail' exist on your file system?
if yes, where.
Maybe share line 40 of your install script.

pat --listen telnet http

?
Found a way!

After installing pat
(pat_0.8.0_linux_armhf.deb (Raspberry Pi))
there is a service definition for pat, here:

/lib/systemd/system/pat@.service

 I edited it from:

[Service]
User=%i
ExecStart=/usr/bin/pat http
Restart=on-failure

to:

[Service]

ExecStart=/usr/bin/pat --listen telnet http

Then ran
sudo systemctl start pat@pi
sudo systemctl enable pat@pi

I have my Winlink password and my (recovery) email address is registered.
Pshew! :-)

 With great assistance from a local Winlink (and AREDN mesh) user we
have been able to send and receive Winlink-style mail over the mesh network
using the built-in P2P telnet port each of us using a RPi.

 One more item is sought after;
establish a dual port local ARDEN mesh and AX.25 mail gateway so that
Winlink (or 'pat') users on the local AX.25 simplex packet channel can
send and receive with the AREDN mesh Winlink ( or 'pat') users.

  I am now running 'pat' on a RPi4 on a microSD card.
The SD card partitions are static totalling 2.1G.
I think I can create an image the same size as the 2020-09-26-raspbian-buster-lite
image with a generic turnkey 'pat' setup. I did this with 'teamtalk-v5.4-armhf'.
The image will likely 'gzip -9' down to about 555M.
The Raspbian automatic 'resize2fs' may be easily restored.

From the Winlink website: https://winlink.org/tags/password

If you’re using a dWinlink e-mail client program other than Winlink Express you must follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.winlink.org, and select the My Account tab.
  2. If you haven’t previously selected a password, select one now. Otherwise log in.
  3. Navigate to the screen that lists your account information, and click “Edit”.
  4. Scroll down and enter your password-recovery e-mail.
  5. Check the box to enable Secure Login.
  6. Click “Save” at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Last, find the place in your client program where you can enter your password, and set it. /Basil n7nix
