You could spread the writes across both the SD Card and the USB stick to

You have looked at them in some other viewer other than YAAC ???? like is it a map, YAAC or Pi problem.

Whilst I agree that YAAC is multi-platform and does some things quite well, again I find the mapping isn't so hot. Downloading the tiles then importing/converting takes a deal of processing time

The only way you can achieve that is to avoid file system corruption.
Either have the Pi shut down properly - buy an UPS, there is one
specifically available for the PI but it may not be compatible

I plan to use this soon on the Pi. Xastir does not run well no matter how I've tried it. It runs well on Windows and Linux as well. Built in open source map support that works fine for

Yes it has a RPI interface, but has a separateinterface board with a short cable.
It needs to be programmed, it is not amonitor as such like the adafruit system

If xastir is not shut down correctly xastir.pid is not deleted hence, xastir won't restart.
Modify the script to delete

It might be that Xastir doesn't automatically estart after the RPi has not be properly shutdown, e.g. switched off if when it froze, rather than using 'reboot' or shutdown..
