A friend recently had an issue with a new Raspberry Pi 4 not displaying on his TV (not a computer monitor).  In his troubleshooting, he found using the HDMI port #1 (the one farthest away from the USB-C power connector) helped a little but would still see a black screen.  By accident, he REMOVED the micro-SD card while the Pi was on and saw the Rpi's video output!  In further troubleshooting, he got things working better when he enabled "hdmi_force_hotplug=1" in the /boot/config.txt file:

   https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md

You also might try out the "hdmi_safe" setting and see if that helps get you something on the TV.  After that, you can work your way back until you determine which setting is required to work on your specific TV.

am trying to work winlink via APRS messaging and have been trying to figure out how the routing works.

Did you get it working?

Since APRS is a data flooding system, there is no need- but it can be interesting- to learn how the packets flow..

Pat Menu Config Screen

For some reason, I can not see the bottom of the config window for Pat Menu.  This is the only screen that appears to display longer then the desktop can display. Basically, the bottom is cut off and I can not see the buttons or the last few fields.
I've tried to change the resolution of the display w/o luck.
I'm using a RP 7" screen. Is there possibly a setting in the terminal that would fix the issue?
Thanks for the help

Re: SCU-17 Behind The Raspberry Pi?

Care to enlighten the rest of us that are having difficulty getting it to work? Any particular steps to get it to work, like having it recognized by linux and how to change the port and/or port settings? Any help would is greatly appreciated. I have mine plugged into a 8-port powered usb hub. I see 2 different entries when I use the lsusb command. Not sure which one is which. I do need the port numbers for CAT and PTT but don't know how to obtain them.

Hello Pete

Yes, I use a SCU-17 with both the Pi 4 and 3A+ connected to a Yaesu FT-891 and FT-817nd. Works very nicely with wsjt-x and fldigi.

Re: Help with TNC9k6 setup

Mat Murdock

Depending on which board you purchase the appropriate firmware is pre loaded.  For instance if you get a TNC configured with the Raspberry PI headers then it has firmware loaded to interact with the PI using the GPIO pins set aside for serial communications (19200 baud btw).  If you get the "stand alone" TNC then the firmware loaded is for that specific configuration.

I have tested our TNC's with Mark's PiGate image and I don't recall having to change any settings.

One other item.  You can find pre-compiled binary's for the TNC9k6 on our site: http://www.wvcarc.com/p/tnc-96k-resources.html

Re: 14.2vDC -> 5.1vDC linear supply with features

Not yet.  We have a schematic and bill-of-materials.  KM4EP is building a prototype but he has several related projects that are keeping him from getting to this.

Both versions have the same checksums. There is no difference between them.

That’s a thought.  I simply pulled the USB cable out of the Dell, and put it in the Raspberry.  So, no problem on the laptop, and it has a torroid on it now.  I’ll take a look at power level tmrw.

Re: CAT Control difficulty with IC7300

This may be silly but could RF be getting back into the PI?  Try a few Toroid On the USB line.. also try lowering the power to see if anything changes.

The Raspberry version of WSJT will read and decode incoming signals, but will not read the frequency, but will not let me change bands with the computer, and I cannot respond to CQs.
I’d appreciate any help.  I’m not new to computers, but I am new to Raspberry.

I then powered down and moved the SD Card over to a Raspi 4 (4GB) and booted it.  Again, it was nominal with the devices created in /dev  This had a more recent (SMA on End) DRAWS™ HAT

I also went to /proc/device-tree/hat  and looked through the product* and vendor files and it was reporting as expected.

If the 'hat' information isn't there, you might check your dmesg and /var/log/syslog for any diagnostic hints.  Also verify your HAT is properly seated.
