Hi
I think you can set up the Pi as a WiFi hotspot. The tablet can then connect directly to the pi via WiFi

The RPi has been configured to create its own wifi access point when it is away from regular internet/shack wifi infrastructure..  the table connects via wifi to the RPi

Hi John,

I had similar experience with GQRX on Pi 3B+. Reducing the sampling rate to 1Msps or lower helped somewhat, but it was still not stable.
For HF, I built a homebrew downconverter using a diode ring mixer and 48MHz canned oscillator. Also tried FST3157 KISS mixer, with even better results.
For demodulation without GUI, CSDR utility works great. CPU usage is in single % range, and the temperature stays low.

Try sudo nano /etc/default/gpsd
you should be able to change what usb it uses.

Dave, great project.

Any plans to put your scripts you use to build this on Github or elsewhere, so we could contribute fixes or report issues?

If not, any chance we could get Direwolf compiled with Hamlib in the next release?

Thanks.

As you've found out, 'systemctl stop gpsd.service' only stops the service until the next boot.

To disable it completely, run your command and then run 'systemctl disable gpsd.service' and it won't restart at boot.

If you change your mind and want the service again run 'systemctl enable gpsd.service' optionally followed by 'systemctl start gpsd.service' if you want it to start prior to a reboot.

Being system commands, sudo is required, or be logged on as root.

Recommendation from KM4ACK -- remove and reinstall newer version.  it WORKED!  All is well.

Update -- JS8CALL seems to be working fine. So, maybe WSJT issue?

New behavior -- WSJTX crashing

Looking for any ideas / thoughts:

I am running KM4ACK's Pi Build 2 on my 3b+ to my 7300, controlled by FLrig (using proper Silicon Lab port selected at 9600). Same config as previous build which worked fine.

Now, with successful launch of FLrig, I launch WSJTX (2.1.0), with codec properly selected, and waterfall action / signals decoding, I select enable transmit and CRASH.  Also, when I select another band / freq, it CRASHES.

I've tried selecting other codec, I've tried upping my GPU memory allocation. I've tried running straight to 7300 with no FLrig control (does not seem happy with ttyUSB0). Could be a clue?

No hardware changes. USB cable is same.

Resting memory use is 229mb +/- of 1gb. 338mb with WSJT running. Could it be that I am now bumping into the limits of the 3b+ and need to upgrade to the Pi 4b?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Looking for software for HF RTLSDR reception with Pi

Hi All,
I have a Pi3B+ running with GQRX and it works, BUT it's really hammering the CPU AND GQRX seems to be only a VHF+ application.  Running GQRX on a local FM station, the CPU temp rises to 80C and then throttles. There's a small heat sink and it's running caseless.   CPU load in this application is ~50% . I know that a fan will help a lot.

Question 1- is this typical?
Question 2- is there another package I could run that would give me HF capability as well as the VHF/UHF of GQRX?

I have a Pi4 4GB that I could use too, but I'm surprised that the 3B is not capable of the function. I really don't need the real time waterfall, etc. but I would like to be able to monitor specific frequencies over extended periods of time.

Thanks for any help!

I have two of them (1200 Baud).  One is a factory built unit and the other is a kit built unit - assembled.  I started with the kit built unit and could never get it to work so I bought a factory unit that worked.  It turned out that the kit unit had the wrong PICs in it and when swapped with the correct ones it works perfectly.  Coastal Chipworks is now out of business so for the time being, the only ones available are in the hands of people who bought them.

Make me an offer if you are interested.

Hello all,
I’m looking for someone that has a TNC2PI preferable still as a kit that you have decided not to build. I am finishing a project connecting packet radio and AREDN mesh for our county. We have 60+ packet stations in strategic positions that will remain and we are building a AREDN Mesh Network to tie into SOCAL network. I have a raspberry pi with two TNC2PIs and a MikroTik 5ghz dish and a second dish and hAP ac lite and I was fortunate enough that Doug had a kit and sold me. So I need one more to complete the project

Thanks
