Question for Ameritron ALS-1306 users

Bill, W6WRT

Am thinking about buying an Ameritron ALS-1306 and wondering about
duty cycle for RTTY. Anyone have any experience with one contesting?

RTTY Forum at Hamvention

I enjoyed the RTTY Contesting Forum. Stu, K6TU, and Ed, W0YK (not W9YK),
and the other panelists were great.

Hope someone videotaped it.

I wonder if anyone managed to video tape that forum and if so where can I

Aegean RTTY- new N1MM Logger+ file available

Dick- K9OM

There's a new file available for the Aegean RTTY test that will score the
contest more accurately, see below if you'd like to try it. It looks like
it requires the installation of an experimental version of N1MM Logger+.

73,
Dick- K9OM

Updated AEGEANRTTY.udc file is available here:

http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=18
Download and copy it into C:\Users\{user}\Documents\N1MM
Logger+\UserDefinedContests folder (this will overwrite the old AEGEANRTTY.udc file).
NOTE: This updated udc file will calculate points correctly with
experimental version of N1MMLogger+ located here:
http://n1mm.hamdocs.com/tiki-list_file_gallery.php?galleryId=20
The only thing I could not get to work – points for SV8 will be the same
as for other SV stations because SV8 is not listed as separate country in
wl_cty.dat file.

AEGEAN UDC Contest

Ben WB2RHM

OM,

The Aegean Contest provides some interesting fun, and unique opportunities. It was first run in 2010.

The N1MM "Original" UDC as well as the Plus version 'Updated" UDC definition file was posted by

AuthorName=Nick & Les
Callsign=NA3M & G4OGB
Email=na3m@...; g4ogb@...

Perhaps a note to them will let you know if there are updates required or not, and are they available. SO WHAT, if the scoring is not perfect....... the Aegeans will rescore your cabrillo submission....

This is a very thinly attended contest........ 99% of the NA Ham Radio world is in Dayton......

SO, I finished 1st Place North American Single Op for the years of 2012 through 2015........... While also finishing 4th Place WorldWide in 2012, and in 3rd Place WorldWide in 2013, 2014, 2015 HiHi!

Ben - WB2RHM

A User Defined Contest. The main difference it they do not score
correctly according to the contest rules. To me, the whole point of a
contest is the scoring, whether one is in it to compete against others
or just competing against one's self, and that's why I don't bother
with UDC's.

Unfortunately it is only supported by N1MM Logger+ as a UDC contest.
According to the N1MM website, the UDC does not score correctly,
giving just one point per QSO.

I have never run a UDC contest and probably never will, so this is

NS RTTY this Thursday

Ken K6MR

Greetings Diddlers:

We had 11 entries on the 3830 page last week, and there were a couple of active stations that did not report. The bands did not cooperate much, but 40 sounded like a RTTY RU weekend! I almost noted the “new” station N4EEV until my old brain realized it was Mike, WH6YH with a new moniker. The moon phase must have been right with many of our occasional attendees all active at once. Thanks to all, and hope to see you on a more regular basis.

We had a small discussion on the RTTY reflector regarding how to get new activity. Thanks to everyone that sent ideas and comments, and if you have any comments and ideas please pass them on.

Nothing big on the RTTY calendar for a while, so if you’d like a bit of keyboard time to keep you sharp please join us Thursday evening.

Here are the details for our Thursday evening ditty:
Friday, 19 May 2017, 0145Z - 0215Z (Thursday, 18 May 2017 in NA)
-- 1845 - 1915 PDT
-- 2145 - 2215 EDT
-- (others in-between those two)
-- 160: 1805 and up (Last two minutes seem to be popular…)
-- 80/40/20/15/10 +80kHz up from the band edge (start checking those higher bands!)
-- Same band dupes ok after 1 intervening Q.
-- 1 kHz QSY rule, otherwise standard Sprint rules
-- Mults per band
-- 100W power limit

Please visit http://www.ncccsprint.com/rttyns.html for complete rules and links to other info. If you find any problems with the web pages, please let me know so we can get them fixed.
If you would like to receive all the latest info about NS as well as a have a place for comments and questions, sign up for the NS mailing list: http://www.kkn.net/mailman/listinfo/nccc-blue

Report scores to 3830scores.com, and join us at 0300Z on 3610 kHz (+/- a few for ongoing groups) for comments and questions (and dinner menus).

Diddle diddle,

Ken K6MR

There's a lot of activity in all three Wednesday CWops events and many of
the ops must be retired. The RTTY community is smaller but seems to be
growing rapidly. Plus there's considerable overlap. At some point there will
a critical mass large enough to support CWops style weekly mini-contests.
Maybe there already is.

RTTY sprint style operating is a very small niche interest. Among my
circle of RTTY friends, not one is interested.

RTTY is primarily a contest mode. There's very little RTTY weekday
operating. DXing for new ones is a miniscule part of it. There is a surprising
amount of RTTY Special Event operations for the prefix chasers.

Since the code requirement was dropped, new hams on HF tend to gravitate
toward SSB and digital modes, mostly PSK and JT65/JT9. These folks should
be good recruits for RTTY contesting. PSK has never become a major
contesting mode. Try to imagine a JT65 contest.

Folks,

I am retired and have more time on my hands than you can imagine. I do
not do the Sprints because I just simply forget they are even running.
Besides I do not like the QSY rules.

With the lousy propagation we are currently experiencing, I do not think
I am missing much.

VOLTA log finally accepted

Richard White <whiter26@...>

My thanks to Rick, N2AMG, and John, GW4SKA, for solving my problem of the
VOLTA robot not accepting my log. Thanks to the others who offered
suggestions. The log was finally accepted and I am a happy camper.

The problem was in the Cabrillo header and Rick and John found it. I had
looked at the log many times and just did not see the error until they
pointed it out.

It was a simple thing that happened. In the header I somehow put a colon
KS0M; after the log call. The operators call was KS0M without a colon and
the robot would not accept the log as the two calls were not identical. I
am rather embarrassed by this .

The RTTY ops can be counted on to help someone who has a problem and that is
a great thing. See you in the pileups.

Re: Error on my post

John GW4SKA

The error is exactly as reported by the robot: LOG-Callsign <> QSO-Callsign
---> KS0M: <> KS0M
The callsign in the header has been entered as KS0M: ..............
note the colon. It should be just KS0M
The robot sees the log from KS0M: but finds a different callsign on each
line of the log (KS0M without the colon following), so every line has an
error.
Dick, just change KS0M: to KS0M in the header line starting callsign: and it
should be fine.

Subject: [RTTY] Error on my post

It looks like I did not put the correct exchange in my previous post and
left out my zone. My zone is in the Cabrillo log file.

Below is a copy of the error notice by the robot and a copy of my first 10
calls logged. What is wrong ???
